The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
Aug. 23
Police said officers responded to the 300 block of E. Crescent at around 5:09 p.m. for a battery report. A victim told police while she was gardening in her yard, an unknown suspect approached her from
behind, pushed her, and used offensive language toward her. Officers searched the area with no results.
Aug. 22
John Pembor, 48, of Northlake, was charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct in the 100 block of W. First at around 3:35 p.m. Police said officers responded to a complaint where Pembor was attempting to start a fight with a restaurant patron. Pembor allegedly ran from the reporting officer, turned around, and charged at the officer with clenched fists.
Aug. 20
Police said officers responded to the 600 block of W. Third at around 6:18 a.m. for the report of a female heard yelling for help. A reporting officer located the victim who stated her friend scratched and choked her. The suspect fled prior to officers’ arrival but was later contacted and stated he would later speak with officers. This case is pending investigation.
Criminal damage, criminal trespass
Aug. 26
A victim in the 100 block of N. Haven told police at around 1:18 p.m. that he parked his vehicle in the parking lot at the above address and observed a group of youths in the parking lot. The victim went into the building. A short time later, the victim returned to his vehicle and noticed two dents on the driver’s door. Two rocks were found lying on the ground near the victim’s car and the group of youths had left the area.

A victim in the 100 block of S. Villa told police that an unknown suspect shattered her vehicle’s rear window while it was parked overnight in her driveway. A rock was found in the back seat of the victim’s vehicle.
Aug. 23
A victim in the 200 block of N. York told police at around 1:33 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) keyed the front and rear driver’s side of his vehicle while it was parked on the east side of the Addison parking garage.

Aug. 26
A victim in the 700 block of N. Willow told police at around 3:40 p.m. that while at his ex-girlfriend’s house, a verbal argument began and the suspect slapped the victim on his arm. The suspect denies striking the victim and there were no visible injuries on the victim.

Aug. 26
Larry C. Lawrence, 25, of Bolingbrook, was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol, driving while license suspended, no valid registration, tinted windows and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at around 1:25 a.m.
Lisseth Toscano Puentes, 31, of Franklin Park, was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license, driving without headlights when required, unsafe tire and no insurance near Lake and Grand at around 3:42 a.m.
Aug. 25
Ricardo Lizama-Garcia, 25, of Westchester, was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, possession of cannabis in a vehicle, speeding and no insurance near Roosevelt and York at around 3:21 a.m.
Aug. 23
Georgina P. Avitia, 31, of Cicero, was charged with DUI-drugs, possession of adult-use cannabis in a vehicle, failure to yield and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Kenilworth at around 1:03 p.m.
Donald Loresch, 27, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, speeding, improper lane usage and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Highview and North at around 3:23 a.m.
Timothy L. Sanders, 28, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, driving while license suspended, improper turn and no rear registration light, while Latisha T. Triplett, 33, of Chicago, a passenger in the vehicle, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis in a vehicle near York and Cayuga at around 3:56 a.m.
John M. Weber, 33, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, no insurance and no rear registration light subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Second at around 2:38 a.m.
Aug. 21
Alexus Barnes, 24, of Franklin Park, was charged with illegal possession of alcohol, illegal possession of adult-use cannabis in a vehicle, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at around 7:33 p.m.
Matthew Willoughby, 29, of Forest Park, was charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no insurance subsequent to a vehicle crash near York and Second at around 12:24 p.m.
Fleeing, eluding
Aug. 24
Police said while an officer was on patrol near Roosevelt and York at around 2:06 a.m., the officer learned of a vehicle traveling eastbound Roosevelt Road at a high rate of speed. The officer observed the speeding vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Chicago, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle accelerated and the officer did not pursue it.
Harassment, threats
Aug. 19
A victim in the 100 block of E. Fremont advised at 1:53 p.m. that she had been receiving numerous telephone calls from an unknown suspect claiming to be a caseworker with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. The victim stated she does not have any pending cases with DCFS. A reporting officer attempted to contact the suspect but was met with no results. An investigation is pending.
Obstruction
Aug. 26
Anthony P. Cantore, 23, of Bloomingdale, was charged with obstructing identification in the 500 block of W. North at around 2:06 a.m. Police said that subsequent to an investigation of a suspicious vehicle, Cantore provided the reporting officer with a fictitious name and date of birth. According to police, Cantore admitted to the officer that he provided a false name.
Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance
Aug. 21
Kenneth W. Ankebrant, 70, of Chicago, was charged with possession of a controlled substance in the 600 block of N. York at around 9:24 p.m. Police said a second suspect—who was attempting to steal merchandise from a store—was observed running from the store to an awaiting vehicle driven by Ankebrant. A search of the vehicle yielded two glass crack pipes and several baggies containing cocaine residue, according to police the second suspect was arrested, made suicidal statements to officers, and was transported to a hospital, according to police. Police said an arrest warrant containing the charges of possession of a controlled substance, felony retail theft and burglary were obtained for the second suspect, police said.

Layton Norris, 58, of Villa Park, was issued citations for possession of adult-use cannabis in a vehicle and expired registration subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Lake at around 10:05 a.m.
Melvin Sykes, 23, of Chicago, and a juvenile suspect were issued citations for possession of cannabis and no seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Addison at around 10:46 a.m.
Obstruction
Aug. 23
Matthew S. Kentra, 18, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for obstructing a police officer and possession of alcohol by a minor near Spring and Eggleston at around 2 a.m. According to police, while on patrol, an officer observed Kentra who was allegedly in possession of a can of beer and appeared to be under the age of 21. Upon seeing the officer, police said Kentra fled on foot into a wooded area.
Suspicious circumstances
Aug. 24
A complainant in the 100 block of E. Wilson told police at around 2:15 p.m. that a suspect described as a white male between 55 and 60 years old, around 6 feet, 170 pounds with gray hair, balding with some facial hair, pulled up in front of his house in a gray or silver older 4-door sedan and walked up to where he was playing basketball. The complainant went into the house and observed the suspect looking through the front window. The suspect was seen walking in front of the neighbor’s house where a boy used a hose to spray the suspect’s feet as he was getting closer to him. The suspect got into his vehicle and drove off.

Aug. 26
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 5:43 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect exited the south side doors without paying for two vacuum cleaners. The suspect entered the passenger side of an awaiting Honda Civic with stolen license plates. It was later determined that the license plate on the suspect’s vehicle had been stolen from a vehicle parked nearby. The area was checked with no results. It was determined that the license plate on the suspect’s vehicle was taken from a victim’s car while it was parked at an apartment complex.
Aug. 25
Forgery was reported at a gas station in the 600 block of W. North at around 11:50 p.m. A complainant told police that a suspect described as a black male in his late 20s, around 5’5” and 125 pounds with a dark complexion, short black hair, wearing a gray face mask, a white shirt and black shorts entered the store and attempted to purchase cigars with a fictitious $20 bill. Upon being notified that the bill was counterfeit, the suspect quickly left the store and entered a small SUV, which left the scene southbound on Route 83. The counterfeit bill was placed into evidence.

Theft by deception was reported in the 200 block of N. York. A victim told police he received a call from an unknown female suspect who stated she was his granddaughter and needed cash for bail. The victim sent the money to the provided address. The victim received a call the following day requesting more cash. The victim was advised by his daughter that this was a scam and not to send any more money.
Identity theft was reported in the 600 block of S. Spring. A victim told police she was notified of several unauthorized charges on her debit card. The bank froze the victim’s account and did not allow charges to be processed.
Aug. 24
Identity theft was reported in the 600 block of W. Belden at around 3:21 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) used his personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through Maine’s Department of Labor.
July 30-Aug. 24
Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of Emory. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used her personal information to open a fraudulent Verizon Wireless account.
Aug. 10-Aug. 22
Identity theft was reported in the 900 block of S. Kent. A victim’s parents told police that an unknown suspect used a fake Instagram account to deceive the victim. The victim subsequently provided her bank account information to
the suspect. The suspect deposited fraudulent checks into the victim’s account and withdrew cash from her account sometime between the above dates.

Theft of vehicle parts was reported at a truck center in the 200 block of W. Diversey at around 8:26 a.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) cut a hole in a fence and removed several tires from the semi tractors parked in the lot. This case is pending investigation.
Aug. 15-Aug. 18
Commercial burglary was reported in the 200 block of W. Lake. A victim told police that he was informed by the property manager of Public Storage regarding recent burglaries to the complex between the above dates and that he should check his unit. The victim discovered the lock had been cut. Several of his items were missing from the storage unit.
Aug. 11
Theft and forgery were reported in the 1200 block of S. York at around 3:23 p.m. A complainant told police that two outgoing checks were intercepted in the mail. The checks were fraudulently endorsed and were cashed. An investigation is pending.
Warrant arrest
Aug. 25
Police said officers responded to the 100 block of N. York at around 4:28 p.m. for the report of a suspicious person speaking to young girls and trying to hand them religious pamphlets before leaving in
his car. According to police, James Grissom, 41, of Elmhurst, was stopped by officers and found to have an active warrant from the Arlington Heights Police Department.
Aug. 23
Police said that subsequent to a traffic crash near Route 83 and North at around 2:44 p.m., Modesto Jurado, 21, of Villa Park, was found to have a valid warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. He also was charged with driving while license suspended, improper display of registration and no insurance.
Aug. 22
Police said that subsequent to a call for a well-being check near Lake and Route 83 at around 8:09 p.m., Kevin Nguyen, 20, of Glendale Heights, provided a false name to the reporting officer. The officer learned Nguyen’s true identity and he was found to have a valid warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, according to police. Nguyen also was charged with obstructing identification.
