The Village of Lombard and National Weather Service reported that on Monday, Aug. 10, the village was affected not only by a derecho, but an EF-1 tornado with just over a 2-mile path that caused damage and destruction in the village—among other neighboring communities—due to winds up to 95 mph. Throughout the week, the village provided updates on its website about debris clean-up, including that the county and nearby municipalities were providing mutual aid to Lombard. The village also created an emergency declaration on Thursday, Aug. 13, “in efforts to better address new challenges that are arising,” an Aug. 14 update stated. A village news release on Monday, Aug. 17, stated that over 6,100 customers were without power after the storm, and that power was restored by Saturday, Aug. 15.
