‘Confused’ elderly man located at quarry; helicopter aids in search

On Tuesday, June 16, the Independent received a call that a helicopter was heard flying over the City in the vicinity of Rte. 83 and North Avenue. Later it was learned that an elderly man had gone missing at about 11 p.m. and a police helicopter had been dispatched to assist in locating him after reports indicated he had been seen inside the fence at the Elmhurst-Chicago Stone Quarry.

According to the police report issued later, officers responded to the 400 block of W. First at around 10:19 p.m. for the report of a suspicious person seen walking inside of the quarry fence line. With the assistance of a Chicago Police helicopter, the victim was located and transported by medics to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment. The victim appeared confused and stated he did not realize where he was, police said. The victim was released to hospital staff.
