Willowbrook High School students organized an assembly that took place outside of their Villa Park school on Saturday, June 27. The event to protest against racial injustice included a march around part of the school property. A portion of the march included a procession down Ardmore Avenue. Officials from the Village of Villa Park discussed plans for the event with organizers prior to the demonstration. The chants during the march included “Hands up, don’t shoot,” “Black lives matter,” “Silent cops are guilty, too,” and “No justice, no peace, no racist police.” About 20 police officers worked the event and accompanied the demonstrators on the march. The speakers at the event included Michael Childress (left), the president of the DuPage County chapter of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). More photos inside.
