The skate park near Villa Park’s Iowa Community Center opened for the season last week. The area had been closed this spring because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In early May, village staff placed wood chips inside the skate park after receiving numerous complaints about skateboarders using the facility. The village removed the wood chips, and the skate park opened on Thursday, June 4. Otto Polanek of Villa Park is pictured moments before taking flight and sailing over several steps on Friday, June 5. “We remind skateboarders to practice social distancing, using proper hygiene and wash/sanitize hands whenever practicable,” stated a release issued by the village last week. “Only 10 skaters will be allowed use of the park at one time. Failure to adhere to the state’s health guidelines may result in closure of the park. If you are feeling sick, please stay home!”
