Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Assault, battery

May 6

An officer responded to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital emergency room at around 4:40 p.m. for a reported sexual assault that occurred in Chicago. The officer contacted the Chicago Police Department, which had the responding officer gather the information from the victim.

Criminal damage to property

May 10

A responding officer spoke with a complainant who rents the house in the 200 block of N. Geneva at around 7:57 p.m. She said she heard glass breaking and found a broken window and a brick on the floor.

May 6-May 7

Police said an unknown suspect damaged the Elmhurst Park District sign at Van Voorst Park sometime between the above dates. The sign was broken in half. It appears the offender may have damaged the sign by kicking it.

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance

May 12

John L. Johnson, 62, of Elmhurst, was charged with disorderly conduct-public intoxication in the 500 block of N. Oaklawn at around 8:01 a.m.

DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol

May 10

Bahiek G. Stovall, 45, of Chicago, was charged with illegal transportation of open alcohol, no valid registration, driving while license revoked and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at around 11:19 p.m.

May 8

Shakira Hampton, 33, of Chicago, was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver, driving while license revoked and no insurance in the 100 block of E. Brush Hill at around 3:55 a.m.

Fleeing, eluding

May 12

Police said a reporting officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Crown and Grand at around 6:21 p.m. that was wanted by the Westchester Police Department in reference to a charge for armed robbery, retail theft, aggravated fleeing and eluding. The vehicle fled from the reporting officer. Warrants are to be signed.

Harassment, threats

May 13

A victim at a currency exchange in the 600 block of W. North told police at around 11:29 a.m. that she received a phone call from a suspect complaining to her about not being able to cash checks without proper identification. The victim explained he was given prior notice about this. The suspect became verbally abusive to the victim and was told to have no further contact with the victim or business.

Possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia

May 12

Charles J. Berry, 48, of Des Plaines, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, DUI and driving while license revoked in the 600 block of W. North at around 10:19 p.m. Police said that subsequent to an intoxicated suspect at a gas station, Berry’s vehicle had damage to the driver’s side, passenger’s side and a flat passenger side front tire. Berry was transported to the police station and was found to be in possession of Xanax® without a prescription, according to police.

May 10

Michael Savoia, 44, of Elmhurst, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis inside a vehicle and disobeying a traffic control signal near North and West at around 7:03 p.m.

Suspicious circumstance

May 10

An officer responded to the 900 block of S. York at around 1:35 p.m. for a suspicious person. DuComm advised there was a female acting strange and drinking mouthwash. While speaking to the victim, the officer noticed several odd features such as dripping blue hair dye, buzz-cut hair only in certain spots, and she was unable to respond to questions. Elmhurst medics arrived and transported her to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

Theft/burglary/attempted theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

May 12

Fraud was reported in the 1100 block of Prospect at around 3:50 p.m. Six counterfeit $20 bills were located at the side of the roadway. One of the bills had Chinese writing on it, according to police. The bills were placed into evidence.

March 1-May 12

Forgery was reported at a company in the 200 block of W. Diversey. A complainant told police that the company has had an ongoing issue with incoming and outgoing checks, which were mailed between the above dates. The complainant also reports that numerous checks, which the company mailed out have been stolen, forged or cashed.

May 10

Identity theft was reported in the 400 block of S. Berkley at around 3:32 p.m. A victim told police that she lost her wallet traveling from Elmhurst to Janesville, Wis. When she arrived back at home in Elmhurst, she could not find her wallet and observed an unauthorized charge at a Target store in Janesville.

May 9

A vehicle was reported stolen in the 700 block of N. York at around 9:56 a.m. A complainant told police that an employee parked the company’s 1999 white Ford F800 in the rear lot of the business. At around 6:30 a.m. on May 11, the moving truck was missing from the parking lot. The vehicle was entered into LEADS.

May 8-May 9

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 400 block of S. Argyle. Police said officers responded to the report of a burglary inside a detached garage that occurred sometime between the above dates. The victim went to her car inside the garage and found her purse missing from inside the car. The victim received text alerts about possible fraudulent activity to her cards that were used in Elk Grove Village and Itasca. The purse was later recovered at a nearby residence.

Nov. 19, 2019-May 9

Theft of vehicle parts was reported at an auto dealership in the 100 block of W. Grand. A sales manager told police that an unknown suspect removed four tires and rims from a brand-new vehicle in the dealer’s lot. The vehicle had been in storage in the east lot since Nov. 19, 2019.

May 8

Theft was reported at Elm Creek Drive at around 5:07 p.m. A victim told police that he received an email from Amazon that his package was delivered to the table in the mailroom of the complex. He went to check for the package, but it was gone.

Theft was reported at a computer repair store in the 900 block of S. York at around 9:18 p.m. A responding officer spoke with an employee who said a known customer stole an iPod from a display case and along with from the cash register. When confronted, the offender returned the iPod and left the store with the cash.

May 7

Theft of vehicle parts was reported at an auto dealership in the 700 block of N. York at around 2:54 a.m. Police said that while an officer was conducting a premise check, the officer observed a silver Hyundai Santa Fe and a black Hyundai Tucson were each missing the driver’s side and passenger side rear tires. The vehicles were parked in the rear west corner of the parking lot.

May 6-May 7

A vehicle was reported stolen in the 800 block of Riverside. A victim told police that an unknown suspect removed his white 2017 Volvo semi-tractor from the storage lot sometime between the above dates. The stolen truck was entered into LEADS/NCIC. The vehicle was subsequently located in Crest Hill and was removed from LEADS.

Theft was reported at a business in the 800 block of S. Riverside. A complainant told police that four dumpsters were removed from her rented storage facility sometime between the above dates.

Theft was reported at a business near Walnut at Lake. A victim told police that an unknown suspect stole two pieces of construction equipment from a job site sometime between the above dates. A Sweepster Sweeper and a Striker Breaker were taken. Both pieces of equipment were entered into LEADS as stolen.

May 5-May 7

Two incidents of unknown suspects entering unlocked vehicles were reported between the above dates. In the first incident, which occurred in the 900 block of Prospect, a complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked Nissan Titan, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Mercedes C300 while they were parked in the driveway. In the second incident in the 400 block of S. Mitchell, a victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked vehicle that was parked in his driveway. He said the contents of his glove box had been emptied but nothing was taken.

May 3-May 7

Theft was reported in the 300 block of S. Rex. A victim told police that an unknown suspect removed 10-foot long steel pipes, which were stored on the north side of the house sometime between the above dates.

May 5

Theft by deception was reported in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at around 11:46 a.m. A victim told police that he responded to an email from an unknown suspect who identified himself as an employee from the Best Buy Geek Squad. The victim was told to make two payments through Chase Quick Pay for technical support. The victim complied. After realizing he had been defrauded, the victim was able to cancel one of

the payments.

April 10-April 17

Theft was reported at a company in the 500 block of W. Wrightwood. A victim told police three incoming checks that were mailed to his business were intercepted and were never received between the above dates. One of the checks was fraudulently cashed by the suspect, police said.
