An open message to the York High School community…

From District 205 Board of Education President Kara Caforio

“Hello, I’m Kara Caforio, President of the District 205 Board of Education.

“Community members, York High School alumni, parents, teachers and students…

“Today, Sunday, May 17, was to be our traditional graduation ceremony for our York High School Class of 2020.  In District 205, graduation is one of our great community celebrations. It is a recognition of our commitment to excellence and our investment in our children, as we celebrate the unique accomplishments of our over 700 graduates each year. We live in a community that generously supports our schools in amazing ways to give our students an incredible foundation on which to build their future.

“This year, our seniors have experienced loss. After four years of dedicated effort, there were no final sports seasons, musical performances, in-person recognition ceremonies or a prom that traditionally mark the end of a high school career and a senior year. The final good-byes to teachers, lab partners and locker neighbors have all been left unsaid, and the final nostalgic walk down the hallway left incomplete.

While we cannot replace or recreate exactly what was lost, nothing prevents us from honoring their accomplishments and celebrating their future in new ways.

“Today, I am asking our community to virtually show up and support our York High School Class of 2020. We want this class to know we are so proud of all they have achieved and are celebrating this significant milestone under extraordinary circumstances with them.

“Alumni, teachers, parents, students and community members – today & over the next few weeks – I’m asking you to show your York Duke Spirit. Create a poster, wear York green, sing the fight song, share a quote or find your own unique way to showcase your York Duke spirit as we celebrate. Please upload your creative pictures and videos celebrating our seniors to your favorite social media platform using the #YORKGRAD2020.

“Let’s paint the internet green for the York Class of 2020!

“The celebration of our seniors officially begins today with a community cheer for our graduates beginning at 1 followed by the playing of the fight song and a special video tribute all accessible on the District 205 website.  The celebration will continue with additional components including a virtual graduation ceremony on June 21 at 1 p.m.

“Please visit the York High School website or follow D205 on social media for details.

“Thank you for your unwavering support…  and of course, Go York Dukes!”
