‘4 on the 4th’ race canceled due to COVID-19

The 16th annual Elmhurst Running Club 4 on the 4th, a staple each Fourth of July morning in Elmhurst, has been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 4-mile main event and 1-kilometer kids race have drawn more than 1,200 participants in previous years. The 4-mile is part of the Chicago Area Runners Association Runners’ Choice Circuit.

“With the uncertainty of the virus, firm guidelines from the governor and with public health and safety always coming first, canceling was the only decision to make,” said race director Bob Richards of the Elmhurst Running Club. “We hope to see our runners back on the starting line in 2021.”
