Fire Dept. responds to fire, accident with injuries

Causes emergency road closure in Elmhurst 

On Monday, March 5 at 2:27 p.m., Elmhurst Fire companies were dispatched to Prospect Avenue and Butterfield Road for the report of an accident with injuries. Upon arrival Elmhurst companies found that a private refuse hauler’s truck had veered off the road striking an electrical utility pole nearly severing it from its base. 

There was also a small amount of diesel fuel leaking from the truck. ComEd was notified and dispatched to the scene. Companies on scene secured the leaking fuel from the truck and recovered what was remaining on the ground. 

Damage estimates were not available at press time. The driver of the truck was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. 

Fire reported on 200 block of N. Elm  

Also on Monday, March 5 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Elmhurst Fire companies were dispatched to the 200 block of N. Elm Ave for the report of fire. Upon arrival Elmhurst companies found that an attached garage was on fire. The fire was able to be extinguished and was contained to the garage. Moderate damage was sustained. No one was injured. 

Damage estimates were not available at press time. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
