District 205 suspends after-school activities

In a letter to District 205 staff and families, Dr. David Moyer announced plans to suspend after-school activities until further notice.  The letter reads as follows:

“Elmhurst Community Unit District 205 continues to closely monitor updates from the health community on the COVID-19 virus. While there have been no confirmed cases in the school district or recommendations to alter operations, an abundance of caution must be exercised to limit the spread of illness throughout our school community.

“Therefore, all D205 after-school activities are suspended until further notice, including tonight’s scheduled All-District Band Concert at York High School. The school-day preparations and performances associated with the concert are suspended as well. Students will remain at their home school.

“This suspension of after-school activities does not include Elmhurst Park Department Rec Station. This service to our families will continue at this time.

In addition, all activities involving outside individuals in our facilities and activities involving our students going out of our schools, all off-campus field trips and outside facility rentals, are cancelled. All district after school meetings are cancelled as well. The status of the March 17, 2020 D205 Board of Education Meeting will be evaluated and announced at a later time.

“The status of operations will continue until further notice and will be monitored with guidance from local, state and federal health and education officials. We understand a decision of this magnitude will produce questions during this time of uncertainty. Please direct your questions to [email protected]. This email account is being monitored and the District 205 leadership team will respond as soon as possible.”
