The Lombard Service League (LSL) recently honored the award winners of its 2020 youth poetry contest. “What If” was the theme of the LSL’s 16th annual contest, which was open to fourth- and fifth-grade students who live in Lombard. Pictured left to right are the four award winners, who read their poems at the LSL’s Feb. 13 meeting at Lexington Square of Lombard. Gabriella Fisher, a fifth-grader at St. John’s Lutheran School, received the fourth-place award for her poem, “If the World Had No Rules.” Nellie Quinn, also a fifth-grader at St. John’s Lutheran School, won the third-place award. Her poem is titled “Colored Feelings.” The second-place award recipient is Brooke Czerny, a fourth-grader at Manor Hill Elementary School. Her poem is titled “A World With No Color.” Penelope Dinglasan, a fifth-grader at Hammerschmidt Elementary School, won the first-place award for her poem—“What If You Could Fly?” A panel of Lombard Service League members chose the four winning selections from 79 entries.
