The St. Charles Road Bridge fully opened to traffic in late December. The construction project to rehabilitate the bridge over Salt Creek and replace the bridge superstructure began in July, causing traffic congestion in the already busy area of St. Charles Road near Route 83. The Village of Villa Park advised motorists to use alternate routes during the project. Traffic on St. Charles Road at the bridge was reduced to one lane in each direction during construction. The north half of the new bridge deck was poured in October. Demolition of the south half of the bridge took place in November. The new bridge deck on the south half of the bridge was installed in mid-December. After waiting a few days to allow the new concrete to cure, the bridge fully opened to traffic. The weight restriction that was posted on the bridge in 2014 has been lifted. According to the village, there is some remaining miscellaneous work, including landscape restoration, which will be completed in the spring of 2020. As the sign in the photo from Saturday indicates, the portion of the Salt Creek Greenway Trail that passes under the bridge remains closed.
