Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

 

Criminal damage, criminal defacement, criminal trespass

 

Dec. 22

A victim told police at around 7:30 p.m. that she recently broke up with the suspect and went to a hotel in the 500 block of W. Grand to drop off the rest of her belongings. As she backed her vehicle out of the parking pace, the suspect reportedly damaged the victim’s car with her keys. The victim refused to sign complaints and the suspect denied damaging the car, police said.

 

Dec. 20-Dec. 21

A victim in the 200 block of N. Indiana told police at around 4:40 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) broke the back glass on his black Chevy Equinox while it was parked in the driveway sometime between the above dates. Nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle.

 

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance

 

Dec. 23

Ashley M. Fendley, 30, of Elmhurst, was cited for disorderly conduct/resisting a police officer in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 1 a.m. Police said subsequent to a fight at a pub, Fendley appeared heavily intoxicated, walked away from officers and pushed an officer’s arm.

Daniel F. Garneau, 65, of Elmhurst, was issued citations for disorderly conduct/damage to property and discharging an air rifle in the 100 block of S. Pick at around 3:24 p.m. A victim told police he was outside and heard a noise that allegedly sounded like the sound of a BB gun being discharged. The victim went to investigate the noise and observed Garneau allegedly holding the BB gun. The victim observed damage to his vehicle, according to police.

Officers responded to the report of a domestic disturbance at an undisclosed location at around 3:01 p.m. involving a son who was out of control and had a knife taken away by his parents. The suspect’s parents advised that their son had become defiant towards them and when they took his phone away, the suspect started to damage items in the home with a pocketknife. The complainants advised they would talk to the suspect’s therapist to adjust medication for anxiety and depression. Family Shelter Services has been advised of this incident.

 

Dec. 22

Police said officers responded for the report of a domestic battery between a mother and teenage daughter. The told police that subsequent to an argument, the suspect allegedly punched her in the eye. The victim had slight swelling above her left eye. The suspect stated that the victim pushed her. The victim agreed to have the suspect spend the evening with her father.

 

Dec. 21

Gail Brasie, 35, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct-public intoxication in the 500 block of S. York at around 6:38 p.m.

Dec. 22

Albert J. Godinez, 30, of Chicago, was charged with DUI in the 100 block of E. Butterfield at around 2:36 a.m. Police said that subsequent to officers observing a suspicious vehicle, Godinez was found in the parking lot and was passed out behind the wheel.

Hugo I. Aldana-Soriano, 43, of Bolingbrook, was charged with aggravated DUI and driving while license revoked in the 1000 block of N. York at around 1:13 a.m. Police said the suspect was located asleep behind the wheel of his running vehicle and found to be DUI.

 

Harassment, threats

 

Dec. 19

A reporting officer responded to the 800 block of N. York at around 9:02 p.m. for a report of a battery. Upon arrival, a victim told police that while driving southbound on York the suspect’s vehicle cut him off almost causing an accident. The two vehicles pulled over; the victim and suspect began yelling at each other when the suspect pushed and spit on the victim before driving off.

Dec. 20

Fred Gomez, 27, of Melrose Park, was charged with felony driving while license suspended, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident near North and Myrtle at around 3:31 p.m.

Dec. 26

Carlos A. Arita Mejia, 22, of Arlington Heights, was issued citations for Illegal transportation of alcohol, possession of drug paraphernalia, no valid driver’s license and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and I-290 at around 12:38 a.m.

 

Dec. 23

Nathaniel E. Alvarez, 22, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 12:14 a.m. Police said Alvarez was found to be in possession of Codeine®, more than 100 grams of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

 

Dec. 22

Police said officers responded for a domestic dispute at an apartment in the 100 block of W. Butterfield at around 1:38 a.m. According to police, located inside of the apartment was a white chunk of powdery substance, a glass smoking pipe, a screw driver with cocaine residue and a sandwich baggie. Police said Robert E. Prideaux, 44, of Elmhurst, admitted to using the screwdriver to “pack” a pipe to smoke cocaine. Prideaux was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Dec. 20

Jazmine Olivia Ballard, 25, of Glenwood, and Christopher J. Tyler, 26, of Berkeley, were issued citations for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Cayuga at around 1:43 p.m. Ballard also was cited for disobeying a stop sign.

 

Dec. 19

Robert E. Menzies, 29, of Chicago, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, expired registration, no seat belt and no insurance, subsequent to a traffic stop near I-290 and York at around 7:04 p.m.

 

Suspicious circumstances

 

Dec. 20

A reporting officer observed a white Dodge Challenger which was reportedly stolen/missing out of Skokie. An unknown suspect described as a black male left southbound. A traffic stop was attempted near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 8:21 p.m., and the suspect fled south on Route 83. The vehicle was last seen at 75th at 55th Avenues by the Darien Police Department. Further investigation is pending.

 

Dec. 18-Dec. 20

A reporting officer responded to a business in the 900 block of S. Route 83 at around 10:35 a.m. for a delayed theft report that took place sometime between the above dates. The complainant stated his business hired the two suspects as drivers. Approximately two weeks ago, they failed to deliver a trailer and did not return it to the business. An investigation is pending.

Dec. 24

Attempted retail theft was reported in the 600 block of Edgewood at around 1:07 a.m. A complainant told police that via his ‘Ring’ doorbell app, he observed an unknown suspect remove a package from his front porch and walk out of the camera’s view. Officers searched for the suspect with no results. An officer located the package on the south side of the residence. The package’s seal was cut and the original contents were inside the box.

 

Dec. 23

Patricia A. Baumgartner, 45, of Darien, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 7:25 p.m. Police said officers responded to the report of a retail theft where Baumgartner fled in a red Ford pickup truck. A traffic stop was conducted, and Baumgartner, according to police, admitted she stole the merchandise, which was recovered and returned to the business.

Evelyn Ochoa Hernandez, 19, of Willowbrook, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 3:44 p.m. Police said Hernandez admitted to concealing two Adidas® jacket and one Adidas® hat inside her purse and leaving the store without paying.

Willie Thomas Scott, 22, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 6:02 p.m. According to police, the store’s video surveillance showed Scott removing the tags from a hat valued at $25 and placing it on his head. Police said Scott concealed another hat valued at $15 inside of his pocket and exited the store without paying for the items.

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of S. Lawndale at around 1:13 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered his contractor’s unlocked work truck and removed a red Milwaukee hole saw. The suspect(s) fled northbound on Lawndale in a black Nissan Altima or Honda sedan with tinted windows.

Residential burglary was reported in the 500 block of W. St. Charles at around 8:06 p.m. A victim told police that when he came home, he noticed that an unknown suspect(s) gained access to his residence by breaking the glass to the rear door. The victim reports that a Rolex® watch, an engagement ring, a Louis Vuitton® handbag, a Gucci® handbag, a Canada goose down jacket, a black machete with an orange handgrip, several bottles of cologne and miscellaneous credit cards were stolen. An investigation is pending.

 

Dec. 20-Dec. 23

Theft of a vehicle was reported in the 800 block of Riverside at around 6:48 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) cut the rear lock to his trailer (nothing inside appeared to be missing) and stole his tractor while it was still parked in the lot sometime between the above dates. The suspect removed some letter decals from the side of the truck and left the truck’s license plate at the scene. The tractor was entered into LEADS.

 

Dec. 22

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of S. West at around 7:53 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) made several unauthorized transactions on her credit card. The victim was provided with information on how to protect herself against identity theft.

 

Dec. 21

Retail theft was reported at a pharmacy in the 100 block of N. Robert Palmer at around 6:42 p.m. A complainant, a manager at the pharmacy, told police that a suspect described as a black male, around five foot five inches, 190 pounds unknown person(s) wearing dark pants, a black hoodie, and a black backpack came into the store and removed several boxes of medication. The suspect fled the store and the area was checked with no results.

Theft was reported at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 3:27 p.m. A victim told police that while shopping, her wallet—containing her driver’s license and some credit cards—was stolen. The victim’s wallet was later turned in to the Orland Park Police Department. The victim will advise a reporting officer if any items are missing from the wallet.

 

Dec. 18-Dec. 20

Theft was reported in the 100 block of Birch Tree at around 4:10 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole two delivered packages from in front of her residence sometime between the above dates. The first package contained five leather wallets and the second package contained 25 handbags.

 

Dec. 19

Daniel B. Porter, 50, of Glen Ellyn, was charged with theft at a restaurant in the 100 block of N. York at around 1:01 p.m. Police said a complainant stated that a male and female subject were having dinner at the restaurant when Porter allegedly stole a gift basket from the bar area.

 

Dec. 18

Residential burglary was reported in the 300 block of E. May at around 11:17 a.m. A victim told police that on the above date, a white male described as being five foot 11 inches with an average build, dark hair and wearing gray pants and a jacket who claimed to be from the Water Department came to her residence to check her basement for leaking water. The victim later discovered that numerous jewelry items and cash were missing from the residence.

 

Nov. 25-Nov. 27

Theft was reported in the 100 block of W. Diversey. The account manager at a store believes that two suspects described as white males stole a Hammer drill that was on display in the store while he was in the back sometime between the above dates.
