Police investigate armed robbery at Butterfield gas station

According to a release from the City of Elmhurst, police are investigating a reported armed robbery that occurred at the Shell gas station located at 301 W. Butterfield Road, on December 31, 2019 at approximately 5:45 a.m. An employee was inside the store when three offenders entered wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks.

One offender reportedly displayed a black handgun and pushed the employee into a back room. The two remaining offenders then reportedly stole currency from the cash register as well as a quantity of cigarette cartons from the store. The three offenders then exited the store. The employee was not injured.

Police officers searched the area, including utilizing a K-9 team. During the search, tire tracks in fresh snow were located in a rear alley leading onto Butterfield Road.

At press time, the description of the suspect vehicle is unknown. Evidence technicians and detectives are canvassing the area for nearby security video cameras. The suspects are described as:

  • A male black wearing black or dark gray hooded sweatshirt, gray pants, black gloves, and a black mask partially covering his face. The suspect was armed with a black handgun.
  • A male black wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, and a black mask partially covering his face.
  • A male black wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, and a black mask partially covering his face.
