American Legion to commemorate 100th Anniversary at Community Military Ball

The Elmhurst American Legion THB Post 187 will hold its 4th Annual Military Ball community fundraiser event at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Post at 310 W. Butterfield Road.  This special event will showcase military tradition and include a formal dinner and dancing.

Post Sergeant-At-Arms and former U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Bill Shanklin will make a brief presentation on his recent inspirational experience jumping from a C-47 over Normandy, as part of the 75th anniversary recognition of the D-Day invasion.

Cocktail hour and dinner entertainment will be provided by the Elmhurst College Jazz Combo and the Elmhurst College String Quartet.  After dinner, attendees may dance to the sounds of the talented and popular Elmhurst College Jazz Band.

The Legion hopes to raise awareness and funds for the Post, which provides many important services for our veterans and active military personnel.  Among other services provided by the Legion are assistance for veterans and their families with VA benefits paperwork, community Color Guard services, Color Guard training, college scholarships for members of the community, and an annual Thanksgiving Day meal for Naval Recruits in basic training.

The Post is open to the public and serves lunch each weekday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Banquet facilities are available for weddings or other events.

Those interested in attending or helping to sponsor the event may contact event chair Bill Shanklin at (708) 267-3987 or [email protected].  Tables of eight are $1,000, while individual tickets are available for $125 each.  Valet parking is complimentary.
