Senior orchestra seeks members
The Senior Suburban Orchestra (SSO) is looking for musicians to join their ranks. There are currently openings for all strings, flute, oboe, bass clarinet, trumpet, French horn and percussion/drums. Rehearsals are Tuesday afternoons (1-3:15) at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (5739 Dunham Road, Downers Grove) September through May. Senior Men’s Club meets Sept. 3
The Senior Men’s Club will meet Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. in the Fireside Room of the Lombard Bible Church (not affiliated) 111 S. Park Ave. (south side entrance), Lombard. The guest speakers will be Ed and Kathy Putnam, who will talk about their time with the Peace Corps in Africa. All men 55 and over are invited. For more information, call 630-629-2498.

Secretary of State offices closed for Labor Day
All offices and facilities open Monday to Friday will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, while facilities open Tuesday to Saturday will be closed Saturday, Aug. 31, in observance of Labor Day. All Driver Services facilities will be open for business Tuesday, Sept. 3. Individuals can visit the Secretary of State’s website, www.cyberdriveillinois.com, to locate the nearest Driver Services facility and the hours of operation. In addition, drivers can change an address, register to become an organ and tissue donor or renew license plate stickers online.

Crafters wanted for Crafters Holiday

Autumn Affair Sept. 7
The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital (EMH) Foundation’s 15th annual Autumn Affair will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, 120 E. Delaware Place in Chicago. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with cocktails and silent auction, followed by dinner, dancing and a live auction. The gala is the Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year and supports Elmhurst Hospital programs and services that directly impact patients. A portion of the proceeds from the event will support Elmhurst Hospital’s new, high-tech, patient-centered technology advancements that align with Edward-Elmhurst Health’s “Safe, seamless, and personal” initiative. A variety of sponsorship opportunities are available, tables of ten or individual tickets can be purchased, and individuals and businesses can donate items for the silent and live auctions. Touch a Truck in York Center Sept. 14
Come see big trucks up close, at an event that puts kids in the driver’s seat. Children will have the opportunity to climb aboard a vast array of specialized vehicles and public safety equipment to learn more about them. This hands-on experience gives children and their families the opportunity to sit in, touch and safely explore these vehicles. Family campout with Lombard Park District
Friday, Sept. 6, at 5 p.m. to Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. Log Cabin at Four Seasons. Dust off that camping gear and get ready to spend a fun-filled evening at the rustic Four Seasons. Activities for the entire family will be planned including crafts, outdoor games, a flashlight hunt, late night s’mores, and a continental breakfast in the morning. Mum sale at Stacy’s Corners Sept. 10
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m., mums go on sale at Stacy’s Corners Store, 800 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, until 5 p.m. or until sold out. These beautiful plants are just $15 apiece or three for $40.
