Plum Library programs
“Sheldon Peck: Portrait of an Ordinary Man” Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. Join the Lombard Historical Society as they present a showing of their new documentary on the life of Lombardian primitive portrait artist Sheldon Peck. Peck was a 19th century radical abolitionist, public education advocate and conductor on the Underground Railroad. DVD copies will be available for a $20 donation to the Lombard Historical Society. Registration is required. “No Stress Skype and Phone Interviews” Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m. Skype and phone interviews can be just as stressful as an in-person interview. Learn the differences between types of interviews and how to prepare for them, as well as tips on best presenting yourself when you’re not actually in the room. Registration is required. “Galaxy Silhouettes: An Outer Space Painting Workshop” Wednesday, July 17, at 7 p.m. It’s out of this world. Join the library for this modern twist on a classic silhouette portrait. Let your imagination take over and design a galaxy pattern using watercolor pencils under artist Christine Thornton’s guidance. Beginners are welcome. Friday, July 5: “Sounds of Summer: Luciano Antonio” Cantigny Golf, 6 p.m. Enjoy Brazilian and Latin jazz on the clubhouse patio. No cover charge, free parking. Cantigny Golf is located at 27w270 Mack Road in Wheaton. Friday, July 5: Movie in the Park: “Top Gun,” Bandshell, 8:30 p.m. Celebrate summer with a family movie night under the stars. Seating is on the grass by the red bandshell. Blankets, chairs and snacks welcome. Free with parking ($5). Saturday, July 6: College of DuPage Theater: “Can You See Me?, Bandshell, noon. Students from the College of DuPage McAninch Arts Center present a story for all ages about a “pretend character” who is lost and goes on an extraordinary journey finding out what it means to be important, included and real. ‘Starship Shenanigans’ July 15
The Villa Park Public Library will hold “Starship Shenanigans” on Monday, July 15, from 2-3 p.m. Children ages 8-12 can build their own UFOs and create a ring of planets. This program will be held off-site at the Community Recreation Building (320 E. Wildwood St.) in Villa Park. Registration is required.
