Fishing derby in Villa Park

CHRIS FOX PHOTOS

The Villa Park Sportsmen’s Club held its annual youth fishing derby Saturday at North Terrace Park. Participants included 7-year-old Karsyn Riha, who is pictured reeling in a fish with some assistance from her grandmother, Debbie Riha. Another photo shows 9-year-old Gianna Fernandez, who caught a large-mouth bass measuring 15½ inches. Gianna won the event’s award for catching the largest fish. Rhonda Meyer—Gianna’s grandmother—attended Saturday’s event with her granddaughter. Meyer, who grew up in Villa Park, attended the same fishing derby at North Terrace Park as a child. Also pictured is 3-year-old Killian Bradley. One more picture shows Mike Kowalik (back row), along with his son Matthew (front row, far right) and (left to right) James Decker, Dagen Oesterle and Jack Decker. Dagen, age 11, is shown with an unusual catch—a large bullfrog.
