Screening of the movie RBG

At 6:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library, the Elmhurst League of Women Voters to view the movie “RBG,” a biopic of Chief Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a biography of one of the iconic women justices of our time. Discussion to follow the movie. Popcorn will be served! Saturday, March 23

At 2 p.m., Lizzadro Museum invites ages 4 through adult to become dinosaur detectives at an interactive lecture called “Paleontologist Illinois Bone” to learn about the world of dinosaurs. Fossils and props are used to create an awareness of dinosaur characteristics. See live animals and how they are related to dinosaurs. Admission for $5. Reservations recommended. Sunday, March 24

At 1:30 p.m., visitors are invited to tour the McCormick House with exhibiting artist Claudia Weber to learn about her site-specific projects including research about the 1952 prefab prototype, various changing installations including works by other artists, interactions with visitors, and more.

 

Wednesday, March 27

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum will host the Spring Break History Hunt at the Churchville One-Room Schoolhouse and the adjacent Fischer Farm in Bensenville. Participants can drop in at either location to pick up their History Hunt forms. Free, no registration required. Info: elmhursthistory.org or

Wednesday, March 30

A discussion and oral history of the McCormick House will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Art Museum. Mies van der Rohe’s House has been part of Elmhurst’s history since it was built in 1952. Participate in recording memories of this historically significant building, including conversations with former McCormick House residents. Co-organized with the Elmhurst History Museum.

 

Sunday, March 31

From 2-3 p.m., a re-enactment of the Lincoln vs. Douglas Debate will take place at Elmhurst City Council Chambers. Political gladiators Abraham Lincoln, played by George Buss, and Stephen Douglas, by Tim Connors, will recreate highlights from this historic series of seven debates that took place across Illinois during the turbulent times of the 1850s as America spiraled toward Civil War. Tuesday, April 2

  • Election Day — Don’t forget to vote in the Consolidated General Election.
  • From 6:30-8 p.m., the Elmhurst Art Museum joins the Elmhurst Public Library to host a book discussion on “The Turner House,” by Angela Flournoy. It tells the story of a Detroit family with 13 children as it responds to the economic woes of the city, in both the 1940s, and then in 2008. Held at the Library, please register in advance by calling (630) 834-0202.

 

Ongoing programs:

  • Widows or Widowers (WOW) meet every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 S. York Road.   • The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m. New York steaks are available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
