Friday, Feb. 15

At 7 p.m. award-winning writer and ordained priest, James Carroll will speak in the Alexander Room of the Frick Center on the campus of Elmhurst College. He is the author of 12 novels, in-cluding his most recent, The Cloister; and Constantine’s Sword: The Church and the Jews, a New York Times Best Seller and acclaimed documentary. Wednesday, Feb. 20

Beginning at 4 p.m., Elmhurst College will present Blueprint for the Beloved Community by Brad R. Braxton, as this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Intercultural Lecture. It will be held in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center on the campus of Elmhurst College. Braxton is supervisory curator of religion at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. From 7-9:30 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum presents Date Night at Pinot’s Palette, 214 No. York St. Bring out the artistic side of your romantic relationship at this special night as you paint, sip, and celebrate the History Museum’s “Heart’s Desire” exhibit. No art experience required. Guests will receive step-by-step guidance from staff to create a beautiful “Love Birds” painting together. Visit the exhibit at Elmhurst History Museum prior to the program to pick up a coupon good for one free house wine or beer at the event. Registration required. GreenMan Theatre will hold its 15th annual Murder Mystery dinner theater fundraiser, “Bewitched, Bothered, or Be Murdered!” in the upstairs banquet hall at Angelo’s Ristorante at 247 N. York St.. Friday and Saturday performances start at 7 p.m., Sunday at 6 p.m. (Note: NO performance on Sunday, Feb. 24.) Doors open an hour before showtime to allow guests to mingle with cast members and get clues about “whodunit.” Tickets are $55 and include a family-style Italian feast. Cash bar.   • Beginning at 2 p.m., ages youth to adult are invited to the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art for “All About Pearls,” led by gemologist Sakina Bharani, who will present the whole spectrum of pearls, including the growth process of natural pearls and human intervention in cultured pearls. Beginning at 1:30 p.m., learn the history and unique design of the McCormick House at the Elmhurst Art Museum at the tour, “From the Bauhaus to Our House.” This docent-led tour will introduce concepts in the exhibition, The Whole World a Bauhaus.   • From 7 p.m. to 12 midnight, York Boosters will hold the annual Green Scene fundrais-er at Fitz’s Spare Keys in downtown Elmhurst. From 7 – 8:30 p.m., Elmhurst College welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin who will present “Team of Rivals: Leadership Lessons from Abraham Lincoln” as this year’s Rudolf G. Saturday, March 9

The 23rd annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will step off at 12 noon from Wilson St. & Spring Rd. heading north, ending at the railroad tracks just beyond Silverado Grill. A fun-filled day for the whole family. Info: elmhurststpatsparade.com.
