Voices of democracy

Three local high school students have been selected winners in the Lombard Veterans of Foreign Wars Lilac Post 5815 sponsored 2018 Voice of Democracy competition. Students entering the annual contest prepare a written and recorded speech on a selected patriotic theme. This year’s theme was “Why My Vote Matters.” Pictured with the Voice of Democracy plaques they received at the Jan. 15 awards presentation are (left to right) Willows Academy student Rhiannon Cassata, of Lombard, first place; and Montini Catholic High School students Devin Hoovel, of Glen Ellyn, third place; and Swarnika Sampat, of Oakbrook Terrace, second place. Each student also received a cash prize from the post.
