Margaret “Peg” Mackey, 95

Margaret “Peg” Mackey (nee Soper), of Oak Brook passed away on January 11, 2019 at the age of 95. She was born on July 1, 1923. Beloved wife of the late Allan L. Mackey; loving mother of David (Margaret) and Daniel (Nancy); cherished grandmother of Christopher, Matthew, Lindsey, and Stephanie; sister of Janet (Roger) Sullivan; sister-in-law of the late William (the late Pat) Mackey, the late Bruce (Barbara) Mackey, Stanley (Frances) Mackey, and Marilyn (the late Robert) Johnson and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Peg was born in Flint, Mich., and graduated from Albion College. She pursued a career teaching mathematics. In 1946 she married Allan Mackey, and they resided in Elmhurst for the majority of their life together.

While at Albion, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. In 2018 she was honored with the Order Of The Shield from Zeta Tau Alpha, recognizing her for being a participating member for 75 years. She was very involved in Elmhurst Panhellenic, and held various board positions.

She was an active member in PEO, an organization committed to helping women pursue higher education, and participated in their mission in Elmhurst and St. Petersburg, Fla. She volunteered at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital as a member of the ‘Pink Elephant’ staff.

One of her passions was music. She was a member of the choir at Elmhurst Presbyterian church for more than 40 years and the choir at Pasadena Community Church in St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, and caring grandmother and will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Memorial Service was held at Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, 367 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst. Private interment.
