Sugar Creek Chili Golf Open

Beginning at 9 a.m., the annual Sugar Creek Chili Golf Open will take place at Sugar Creek Golf Course. Get out the clubs and bundle up for a round of golf in the snow, ice, wind or whatever Mother Nature serves up on that day. – some years have been sunny and mild! Foursomes are $160, which includes golf, chili buffet dinner and free prize drawings. To register, call 630-834-3325.

Saturday, Jan. 5

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., ages 5 to adult are invited to drop by the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Arts for the annual Dinosaur Day. See and touch real fossils, 3-D puzzles of dinosaur bones, and make your very own fossil imprint to take home. Dinosaur Bingo at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Fossil prizes awarded. Saturday, Jan 12

At 2 p.m., ages 10-18 are invited to the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art for a 75-minute interactive program on Olympic Fossils. For students competing in Science Olympiad tournaments, dive into the world of fossils. Hand samples available, learn tips to identify fossils. Fee: $8. Reservation required. Sunday, Jan. 13

The Single Mothers Support Group will meet at 12:15 p.m. Enjoy lunch with your children, then free childcare will be available during the program. The program will feature Rev. Jeff Klein speaking about community, hope and encouragement; Lina AbuJara, MD, founder of Living with Power Ministries will speak as well. Free. Info: elmhurstcrc.org/she.

 

Monday, Jan. 28

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., Grammy-nominated guitarist Tommy Emmanuel will perform a concert in Hammerschmidt Chapel on the campus of Elmhurst College. The concert will benefit a scholarship fund named for his family at the College. The Elmhurst College Gretsch Guitar Ensemble will also perform.   • CLOSING Jan. 6, Hometown Holiday: It’s A Wonderful Life in Elmhurst is on display at the Elmhurst History Museum. Admission free. Info: 630-833-1457 or visit elmhursthistory.org.
  • ALSO CLOSING Jan. 6, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 Cottage Hill Ave., presents a special exhibit “Fabergé Figurative Carvings.” Modern carvings from the House of Fabergé, feature Russian folklore figures of the Kvass Seller, the Gypsy Fortune Teller and the Vagabond made of Russian gemstone materials.   • Widows or Widowers (WOW) meet every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 S. York Road.   • The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m. New York steaks are available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
