A wintry path

The snow and cold weather hasn’t kept everyone off the Illinois Prairie Path in January. Dick Zylstra is pictured last Saturday afternoon heading westbound on the path near the Rugaard Gazebo. Zylstra, who runs regularly on the path, is the longtime girls and boys cross country coach at Timothy Christian High School. He coached the Trojans’ girls team to the IHSA Class A state championship in 2001. That team included his daughter, Jenny. Zylstra taught math at Timothy Christian for over 30 years. He is now a high school dean and assistant athletic director at the Elmhurst school. Another photo from Saturday afternoon shows Julian, who took his dog, Bear, for a walk on the path. They are pictured heading eastbound near Villa Avenue. This week, of course, Villa Park residents had to deal not only with more snow on Monday, causing school closings, but below zero temperatures Wednesday and Thursday which were expected to bring the coldest weather in years to the village.
