York girls basketball team runs record to 9-1

Another week and two more wins for the white-hot York girls basketball team.

The Dukes posted a pair of West Suburban Conference Silver Division wins against Oak Park-River Forest and Lyons Township.

The wins put York at 9-1 overall on the season and moved the Dukes to 4-0 in the WSC Silver thus far. Since losing to Downers Grove South in overtime in its own Thanksgiving tournament, the Dukes have won seven contests in a row.

In a 65-47 win against Oak Park-River Forest, York led 14-11after the first quarter and 29-24 at halftime. The Dukes put it in high gear in the third quarter, outscoring the Huskies 17-9 there and 19-14 in the fourth quarter.

Carley Schwartz continued her impressive 3-point shooting.She had 22 points and made five 3-pointers. She exploded for 14 points in the first quarter alone on four 3-pointers and a regular bucket. She finished with18 of York’s 29 first-half points.

Sydney Molis added 12 points, all of those coming in the second half. Sara Krissinger finished with 12 points as well, while Megan Juneman had 10 points, eight coming in the second half.

York then downed Lyons Township 49-34 at home to move to 4-0in conference play. York led 14-7 after the first quarter and 30-20 at halftime. York held the Lions to 14 second-half points.

Kathleen Levins led the Dukes with 12 points. She had nine points in the second half, six coming in the fourth quarter. Levins hit 4 of 6free-throw attempts. Molis also finished with 12 points and hit two 3-pointers.Kaitlyn Kjome had six points, while Krissinger had five points and hit a3-pointer. Schwartz had one 3-pointer in the game.

York returned to action earlier this week with another conference game against Glenbard West. The Dukes are in the midst of playing in the Benet Academy-Naperville North quad and will continue in that event SaturdayIC Catholic Prep boys basketball
