York girls cross country

The York girls cross-country team also is headed to Peoria. The Dukes, with only one senior in their top seven, took third at the Class 3A Niles West sectional to earn a state-qualifying berth.

The Dukes had 94 team points. New Trier won the sectional with 64 points, while Wheaton-Warrenville South had 67 points. Of note, York finished ahead of West Suburban Conference Silver Division opponents Glenbard West and Oak Park-River Forest at the sectional.

Senior Sarah May finished fifth in the race with a time of 17:47. Junior Lydia Hickey was 17th with a time of 18:18. Junior Emma Kern was 22nd in 18:23. Freshman Katelyn Winton was 23rd in 18:25. Junior Grace Moriarty was 27th in 18:36. Freshman Katelyn Leonard was 42nd in 19:11 and freshman Kathleen Buhrfiend was 55th in 19:23.
