York boys cross-country team headed to state meet; Kern individual champion

The York boys cross-country team is headed back to familiar environs.

The Dukes, with no seniors in their top 7, took third at the Class 3A Niles West sectional to earn a team spot in Saturday’s state finals race in Peoria.

York was third with 102 points. Conference foe Glenbard West was second with 89 points.

Junior Ethan Kern won the individual sectional title with a time of 14:37. Sophomore Colin Hill was 10th in 15:08. Junior Michael Moriarty was 26th in 15:32, while sophomore Sam Ayers was 28th in 15:33. Junior Daniel Klysh rounded out the York scorecard with a 37th-place finish in 15:40. Junior Brian Pratt was 53rd in 15:59 and sophomore Mickey Vreeland was 57th in 16:04.
