On Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m., Lombardians gathered at the Veterans Memorial in Lombard Common to remember and honor our nation’s veterans during the Village of Lombard’s annual Veterans Day ceremony. This year’s Veterans Day marked the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. On Nov. 11, 1918, an armistice that ended the hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany was signed. Among the many veterans who are buried in Lombard Cemetery (pictured) are Albert William Fischer and Paul William Fischer. Both served in the United States Army during World War I.
