For The Elmhurst Independent

The Independent was able to sit down for one of the final committee meetings of the York Alumni Association as they finished off the plans for the upcoming Centennial Celebration of the high school’s 100th anniversary.

In a recent issue of the Elmhurst Independent, the planned events were reported, beginning with the kick off to the Centennial Celebration on Monday, Sept. 24 from 6-8 p.m. at Cool Cars Under the Stars at the American Legion Post #187 at Spring & Butterfield Rds., just east of Community Bank of Elmhurst. In addition to antique and collectable cars on display, the York Alumni Association table will be open for information about the weekend’s special events and for guests to purchase official merchandise.

Other events include:

Thursday, Sept. 27

Meet & Greet at Fitz’s Spare Keys

At 5:30 p.m. the Meet & Greet Kick-Off to the celebration will take place in the back room at Fitz’s Spare Keys. Tickets are $20 per person, payable at the door.

Friday, Sept. 28

York Centennial Classic Golf Outing

The YCHS Centennial Classic Golf Outing will be held but the venue has been changed to The Preserve at Oak Meadows at 900 N. Wood Dale Road in Addison. It will NOT be held at White Pines Golf Course in Bensenville as previously announced. Rather than a shotgun start, people are welcome to sign up for regular tee times. To register, visit Elmhurst205.org/centennialcelebration.

York Dukes Homecoming Football Game

Later on Friday, Sept. 28, the York Dukes Homecoming Football Game will be held at Clarence East Field at York High School. The sophomore game begins at 5:30 p.m., with the Varsity game at 7:30. There will be pre- and post-game gathering spots for alumni at the stadium.

Saturday, Sept. 29

Family Fun Day

From 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., the York Centennial Celebration continues with Family Fun Day on the grounds of York High School. In addition to food trucks serving up tasty treats that will be courtesy of the Centennial Alumni Committee. There will be an open house with tours of the high school led by local historian Val Stewart. There will also be live musical entertainment, family games, free prize drawings and much more. The Elmhurst community is invited to attend.

Centennial Celebration Banquet is cancelled

There was to be a banquet held at the Diplomat West to celebrate the Centennial, but it turns out many classes are getting together for celebrations on their own, so the group banquet event was cancelled.

Sunday, Sept. 30

Brunch With A Duke

The York Centennial Celebration wraps up with Brunch With A Duke at White Pines Golf Club & Banquets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests are asked to RSVP by visiting Elmhurst205.org/centennialcelebration.
