Elmhurst Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

 

Battery

Aug. 24

Police said that subsequent to a medic assist for an unconscious subject, Robert Baldwin, 68, of Elmhurst, was found asleep on the sidewalk. During contact, Baldwin punched an officer in the chest and punched a paramedic in the arm and leg, according to police. Baldwin was charged with resisting a police officer and two counts of aggravated battery.

Police said officers responded for an intoxicated male yelling outside in the 200 block of N. Willow at around 8:56 p.m. Upon arrival, Michael McCambridge, 61, of Elmhurst, was located outside and began yelling at officers, according to police. McCambridge was instructed to go inside his residence. Police said McCambridge approached the officers and slapped the hand of one of the officers as he attempted to walk into him. He was charged with resisting arrest and two counts of battery.

A victim told police at around 9:53 a.m. that while walking home, he noticed a suspect following him who he described as an Hispanic male or mixed race in his late 20s or early 30s, wearing a black or dark gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, black sweatpants with two stripes down the sides and possibly white gym shoes. The suspect reportedly came up behind him near Adelia and Arlington, flailing his arms wildly towards the victim. The suspect allegedly grabbed the victim by the front collar and ripped it in the process. The victim punched the suspect in the nose twice and the suspect ran away. The victim stated that since he was not injured he waited to notify the police. The victim and his mother signed decline to investigation forms.

 

Criminal damage

Aug. 25-Aug. 26

A victim in the 300 block of Kimball told police at around 8:03 a.m. Aug. 26 that an unknown suspect(s) shot a BB or pellet gun at his parked vehicle, shattering the rear window of the vehicle. An officer observed several small marks and holes consistent with the size of a round from a BB or pellet gun. Estimated cost $300.

 

Disorderly conduct

Aug. 28

Police said two students at York High School were engaged in a fight in the cafeteria at around 12:04 p.m. Both were charged with disorderly conduct-fighting; each was issued an adjudication ticket and released to their respective parents.

 

Aug. 26

A complainant at a restaurant in the 100 block of N. York told police at around 4:51 p.m. that a juvenile suspect had taken a cup of urine and splashed it over the front door of business. The suspect was located, placed under arrest, and transported to the station. He was issued a citation for disorderly conduct-befouling property and released to his parents.

 

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disturbance

Aug. 29

Police said officers responded for a reported domestic battery in progress at around 4:24 p.m. The victim stated he was involved in an argument with the suspect, his mother. The victim stated he refused to eat dinner and threw himself on the floor, the suspect then picked the victim up and sat him down on the chair. The victim then threw himself on the floor for the second time. The victim stated the suspect then kicked him in the stomach. No apparent signs of injury were seen, however, medics were called out to the scene and transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital for evaluation. The victim was examined by a doctor who confirmed no signs of physical abuse or injury were observed. DCFS was contacted and informed of the incident.

 

Aug. 26

A reporting officer responded to a coffee shop in the 100 block of N. York at around 5:58 a.m. for two customers engaged in an argument. The complainant stated that the suspect reportedly grabbed the complainant’s phone off the table as he exited the shop, stating it was his. The complainant grabbed his phone back and coffee was spilled on him. The complainant then reportedly pushed the suspect out of the door. A trespass notice was issued to the suspect and he was advised not to return to the shop.

 

DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, open alcohol in public, consumption of alcohol by a minor

Aug. 28

Mario Gutierrez, 60, of Bensenville, was charged with DUI and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near North and York at around 1:21 a.m.

 

Aug. 27

Jonathan Brignoni, 28, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, speeding and failure to dim headlights subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at around 12:48 a.m.

 

Aug. 26

Nathan William Winquist, 27, of Franklin Park, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and no headlights subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Clinton at around 1:16 a.m.

Samuel Robert Wittmer, 18, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of E. South at around 2:45 a.m.

 

Aug. 25

Oscar Ramos-Fabian, 26, of Addison, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Oaklawn at around 1:18 a.m.

Maddelena Fico, 23, of Carol Stream, was charged with DUI, speeding and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Route 83 at around 1:56 a.m.

Miranda Lindgren, 22, of Crestwood, was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, improper lane usage and speeding, while Jordan N. Lopez, 24, of Mount Prospect and Marcy L. Raimondi, 41, of Elk Grove Village, were issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 2:14 a.m.

Oswaldo Sanchez-Gonzalez, 46, of Berkeley, was charged with DUI and no valid driver’s license while Quy B. Dang, 26, of Houston, Texas, was charged with transportation of open alcohol subsequent to the report of a suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of S. York at around 6:56 p.m.

 

Harassment, threats

Aug. 24

A complainant in the 300 block of W. North came into the station at around 9:33 a.m. and stated that the suspect, who is her step-daughter’s boyfriend, has threatened her over the phone. A reporting officer attempted to contact the suspect with no results.

 

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a

controlled substance

 

Aug. 28

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near North and York at around 12:21 a.m., Kristin Harris, 19, of Elmhurst and Shani Bedolla, 18, of Northlake, were found to be in possession of a vape pen, which contained cannabis. Harris was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding, while Bedolla was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Aug. 27

Police said Joshua Villarreal, 24, of Melrose Park, was located in Wilder Park after hours at around 12:10 a.m. and was found to be in possession of a hypodermic syringe/needle. He was charged with unlawful possession of a hypodermic syringe.

 

Aug. 26

Marty Torres, 22, of Elmwood Park, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Willow at around 11:16 p.m.

 

Sale of alcohol to a minor

 

Aug. 23

Police said that while conducting an alcohol compliance check at Manny’s Ale House in the 600 block of W. St. Charles at around 5:39 p.m., Carol Frederick, 59, of Villa Park, sold alcohol to a minor. She was issued a citation for sale of alcohol to a minor.

Police said that while officers were conducting alcohol sales compliance testing at Jewel-Osco in the 900 block of S. York at around 4:53 p.m., Jill Golowach, 54, of Elmhurst, sold alcoholic liquor to a person under 21. She was issued a citation at scene for sale of alcohol to a minor.

Police said that while conducting an alcohol compliance check at The Club in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 6:55 p.m., John Horn, 71, of Elmhurst, sold alcohol to a minor. He was issued a citation for sale of alcohol to a minor.

 

Sale of alcohol, tobacco or an alternative nicotine product to a minor

Aug. 28

Police said that while conducting a compliance check at Fitz’s Spare Keys in the 100 block of N. York at around 7:19 p.m., one beer was served to an underage individual. Keshon L. Benford, 22, of St. Louis, Mo., was issued a citation for sale of alcohol to a minor.

Police said that while conducting a compliance check at Doti Liquors in the 100 block of E. Fullerton at around 6:05 p.m., one package of cigarettes was sold to an underage individual. Desiree S. De Paz Carlson, 23, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for sale of tobacco to a minor.

 

Aug. 23

Police said that while conducting a tobacco compliance check in the 100 block of S. York at around 7:04 p.m., Tanya Taiter, 29, of Aurora, sold an alternative nicotine product to a minor. She was issued a citation for sale of an alternative nicotine product to a minor.

 

Suspicious circumstances

Aug. 29

A victim in the 300 block of Boyd told police at around 1:05 a.m. that old pictures along with stamps had been moved in her closet. The victim was afraid to move back into the residence, but returned home to feed her cat. Officers entered the residence and found obvious signs of hoarding. Officers contacted the victim’s family and notified them of the issue. The Zoning Department was also contacted.

 

Aug. 23-Aug. 24

A complainant in the 600 block of S. Berkley told police on Aug. 23, the north side gate to the house was open. The family makes sure it is closed at all times so the dog does not get out. At around 5:30 a.m. Aug. 24 after letting the dog out in the backyard, the complainant’s wife noticed the window well grate had been moved about a foot from the window.

 

Theft/burglary/attempted theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

Aug. 28

Margaret M. Moore, 50, of Bellwood, was charged with two counts of retail theft at a store in the 100 block of E. Schiller at around 1:49 p.m. Police said Moore exited the store past the last point of sale without paying for $320 worth of groceries.

 

Aug. 27

Theft was reported at a gas station in the 500 block of W. Lake at around 12:07 p.m. A victim told police he placed his wallet on top of his car and left the parking lot. He realized the wallet was missing a short time later and drove back to the station. The victim located his wallet on the median near the station and discovered his Illinois driver’s license, FOID card, Conceal Carry card, Elmhurst ID card and US Bank debit card were missing. The driver’s license was entered into leads as stolen and a message was sent to ISP regarding the FOID and Conceal Carry cards.

 

Aug. 26

Retail theft was reported at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 6:48 p.m. A complainant told police that he observed a suspect, described as a black male, around 5’6” and 160 pounds, wearing a white shirt, white pants, white gym shoes and a black baseball cap, take four bottles of liquor and two razors, place them in his shopping cart and head for the exit doors. The complainant stopped the suspect who left the shopping cart and began to walk toward the exit. The complainant asked to see the suspect’s shoulder bag, which did not have any other merchandise in it. The suspect then left the store. The complainant did not wish to sign complaints.

A victim in the 100 block of N. Berteau told police at around 7:26 p.m. that she had received an email from a person claiming to be a priest from Immaculate Conception Church where she works, requesting that she purchase some I-Tunes cards for his niece and that he would pay her back. The victim purchased I-Tunes cards and sent pictures of the cards to the suspect’s email. The victim related she then received an email from Immaculate Conception notifying employees of a scam going around requesting gift cards from the employees.

 

Aug. 26

Theft was reported in the 700 block of S. Hawthorne at around 3:50 p.m. A complainant told police that while her ex-husband was dropping off their three children at her house, she suspects he stole 24 of her Adderall® pills from her purse.

 

Aug. 25-Aug. 26

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 900 block of N. Oak Lawn at around 3:22 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) broke the driver’s side door lock on his vehicle and removed tools sometime between the above dates.

 

Aug. 25

August C. Palmer, 64, of Maywood, was charged with two felony counts of retail theft at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 6:55 p.m. Police said officers responded for a retail theft in progress. A complainant stated that Palmer placed five bottles of vodka into two bags and exited the store without paying for the items, according to police. The bottles of liquor were valued at $188.

Theft was reported at a car dealership in the 700 block of W. Grand at around 2:26 p.m. A complainant told police that he brought his vehicle to the dealership to be appraised. He left his backpack, which contained cash, inside the vehicle while the appraiser took it for a test drive and is now unable to locate the money. The appraiser told police he drove the vehicle for five minutes, parked the vehicle in the parking lot, and did not take any money.

Attempted identity theft was reported in the 200 block of W. Crescent at around 7:31 p.m. A complainant told police that she was notified by Nordstrom’s fraud department that an unknown suspect(s) used her personal information and attempted to open a fraudulent credit card. The complainant was advised of ways to protect her personal information.

 

Aug. 24-Aug. 25

Identity theft was reported at a bank in the 100 block of N. Walnut. A victim told police that he was notified by the bank of several suspicious charges on his bank account. The victim checked the transactions and found five unauthorized charges totaling $196.87. The charges occurred in Chicago and Lombard. The victim canceled the account and the bank reimbursed the charges.

 

Aug. 24

Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of Washington at around 5:24 p.m. A victim told police he was notified by Privacy Guard® of recent activity on his credit report. Upon investigation, it was learned that an unknown suspect used the victim’s personal information to open a Capital One® credit account. The victim contacted Capital One, canceled the account, and initiated a fraud complaint with Capital One.

Retail theft was reported at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 4:07 p.m. Police said an officer responded for a delayed retail theft report. A complainant told police upon viewing the store’s video surveillance, two suspects were observed reportedly taking several men’s clothing items out of the store without paying for the items. The stolen items were two white Nike hooded sweatshirts, one Nike sweater, one pair of Nike sweatpants, one black Nike hooded sweatshirt, valued at approximately $184. The two suspects were described as black females between 25 and 50 years old with dark complexions. One of the suspects had medium length straight black hair and was wearing a black sweater with “PINK” letters and black jogging pants. The other suspect had black and blonde medium length wavy hair and was wearing a white sweater and white jogging pants.

 

Aug. 21-Aug. 24

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 1-100 block of Elm Creek Drive sometime between the above dates. A victim told police that an unknown suspect entered his parked pick-up truck, disturbed its contents, and removed loose change. An interior locking latch for the rear cabin window was broken off, allowing for the sliding window to be opened from the exterior. The broken latch is valued at $100.

 

Aug. 23

Theft was reported in the 400 block of E. Church at around 7:28 a.m. A victim told police that between 5 and 6 p.m., unknown suspects removed a blue Lucky Bamboo potted plant from outside the front doorstep.

 

Aug. 22-Aug. 23

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of N. Oak between the above dates. A victim told police that he parked his unlocked vehicle in his driveway at around 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22. When he returned at 7:20 a.m. Aug. 23, he observed the glove box and center console had been rummaged through and his belongings were thrown about the vehicle. Victim did not find anything missing.

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of N. Highland between the above dates. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked vehicle and removed several gift cards and a Banana Republic Credit Card.

 

Aug. 22

Theft was reported at Elmhurst College at around 11:18 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered a room at Frick Hall and stole her black clutch wallet out of her purse. It contained an Elmhurst School ID, driver’s license, an Elmhurst College credit card, and a key to her vehicle. All credit and debit cards were cancelled.

 

June 1-Aug. 21

Theft was reported at a trucking company in the 800 block of S. Riverside. An agent for the victim’s company told police that a semitrailer was missing from a storage lot. The trailer was stored at the lot on June 1 and was found to be missing from the lot on Aug. 21. A GPS unit in the trailer is inoperative. There is no surveillance video available. The trailer was entered into LEADS.

 

Aug. 15

Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of Elm Park at around 8:14 p.m. A victim told police that he noticed two unauthorized withdrawals from his checking account. Total loss was $301.30.

 

Sept. 1, 2017-Nov. 1, 2017

Fraud was reported in the 100 block of Elm between the above dates. A victim told police that they paid the suspect for electrical work at the above location. The victim stated the suspect failed to complete the work as promised. This case is pending investigation.
