Paws on the Path

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., resident dog-owners and lovers are invited to Villa Park’s Prairie Path with your pup. The event takes place at the Ruggard Gazebo at Ardmore Avenue and Park Blvd. Include rescues/shelters with adoptable animals, a kids’ activity tent, live music, dog-friendly games and prizes, and a pet costume contest. Celebrating beloved children’s author Roald Dahl

The Youth Services Department at the Villa Park Public Library is celebrating “Roald Dahl Day” all day in honor of the beloved author’s 102nd birthday. Children of all ages can stop by anytime throughout the day to take the Gobblefunk quiz, play some phizzwhizzing games, and make a party hat to wear. No registration required.

Library moves storytime to a new time

Starting on Sept. 1, the Villa Park Public Library is moving its popular Saturday morning storytimes to a new time. “Marvelous Mornings” will still take place on the first and third Saturdays of each month, but will now be held an hour later, from 11-11:45 a.m. Small children of all ages and their adults can stop by for stories, songs, and activities, including a “make and take” project to enjoy together. Additional sessions will take place on Sept. 15, Oct. 6, Oct. 20, Nov. 3, Nov. 17, Dec. 1, and Dec. 15. No registration required.

 

Free ESSENTRICS® Classes available at library

The Villa Park Public Library will hold Age Reversing ESSENTRICS® on Saturdays, Sept. 22, Oct. 20, Nov. 17, and Dec. 15 from 11 a.m.-12 noon. ESSENTRICS® is a gentle, slow-paced workout for both men and women. All participants should bring a mat or towel for floor work and will be asked to sign a waiver. Gymnastics program

Parks and Recreation has announced a new gymnastics program in partnership with Tumbling Times Gymnastics, 400 Rohlwing Road. A wide variety of gymnastics classes are available for all ages and skill levels. Info: vprd.org or call 630-834-8970.

 

Preschool registration now open

Villa Park Recreation is currently accepting registration for preschool for the 2018-2019 school year. Preschool is held at the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa. Class options include a Tuesday/Thursday program for three year-olds (must turn 3 by Sept. 1, 2018) and a Monday/Wednesday/Friday program for four year-olds (must turn 4 by Sept. 1, 2018). Baby Playtime begins Sept. 4

The Villa Park Public Library will host “Baby Playtime” on Tuesdays, Sept. 4 and Oct. 16, and on Thursdays, Sept. 6 and Oct. 18 from 9:15-10 a.m. All infants and pre-walkers with an adult can drop in, meet other babies and their adults, and play with the baby toy box! Siblings are also welcome to attend. No registration required.

Ukulele classes available

Perry’s Music Center will conduct Ukulele classes on Sept. 10, Sept. 19, Sept. 24, Oct. 3, Oct. 5, and Oct. 15 from 7-8 p.m. for anyone ages 14 and up. During this 6-week course, attendees will learn to play some chords and songs. Details about ukulele rentals can be found at www.perrysmusic.net. Library holds storytime at Oakbrook Terrace Park District

The Villa Park Public Library will present “Rhythm and Rhyme @ Oakbrook Terrace Park District” on Thursdays, Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 8, and Dec. 13 at a new time: from 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. These special off-site storytimes will take place at 1S325 Ardmore Ave. in Oakbrook Terrace. Each session will feature stories, music, and movement geared for young children exploring their world. This program is open to children of all ages accompanied by an adult. No registration required.

 

Pickleball for adults now open

Villa Park Recreation now offers Pickleball for adults both as classes and as a drop-in program at the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa. Join the Pickleball craze and sign up to play this fun game that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. Pickleball players use wooden paddles and whiffle balls to play on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. It is a low-impact sport and easier on the knees and shoulders than tennis and is a recreational game that is designed to encourage an active lifestyle. Drop-in play is available on Tuesdays, 7:45-9:45 p.m., Saturdays, 12 noon-2 p.m. and Fridays, 3-5 p.m. The drop in fee is $3 resident and non-resident. Family open gym on Monday nights

Parks and Recreation holds family open gym at Jackson Middle School’s main gym on Mondays from 7-8:30 p.m. Drop-in to play basketball and volleyball as a family. The $7 cash fee is payable at the door. The family fee is for 1 or 2 adults over 21 and children under 18. Individuals (age 18 and older) who drop in to open gym pay a $3 fee. Villa Park Recreation classes for kids

Villa Park Recreation has several upcoming classes for kids to keep them busy this fall. Toddlers ages 18-36 months can participate with parents in Exploring Toddler where they’ll have a great time moving and exploring colors, books, songs and other activities. Children ages 3-5 will enjoy Mad Scientists Laboratory where they will try experiments that will explode and erupt and Dino Hour, a fun-packed hour of dinosaur fun. Jugando Se Aprende … Learn While Playing is a class for ages 4-6 that combines literature, art and large motor play as children learn Spanish. Swim lessons available through Addison Park District

Do you miss swimming outdoors? Parks and Recreation offers indoor swim lessons in cooperation with the Addison Park District. Classes are available on Saturday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings for swimmers with all levels of swim experience and include parent/tot classes. Register with the Recreation Department; lessons are held at the Club Fitness Indoor Pool, 1776 W. Centennial Place in Addison. VFW Friday Night Fish Fry

From 5:30-8 p.m. every Friday evening, the Villa Park VFW Post #2801, 39 E. St. Charles Road, holds its Fish Fry. Menu available for purchase includes fried shrimp, fish/shrimp combos, beef/sausage sandwiches, combos and hot dogs.

 

Widows or Widowers meeting
