And then it was gone

A part of Lombard’s history came to an end last week. After serving for over 40 years as the home of the Lombard Community Senior Center, the “White House,” which stood at 205 W. Maple Street, was demolished. St. John’s Lutheran Church—its owner—had decided that the time had come to raze the building. The White House is pictured in the top photo a few days before its end and in the bottom photo on demolition day with St. John’s Lutheran Church’s Rev. James Ilten, pastor emeritus (left), and Rev. Dan Wegrzyn, senior pastor.
