Catchy Caption contest!

The Elmhurst Independent is offering its readers a chance to get in on the action and write your own Catchy Caption to a photo from the Independent archives. Winners will be announced in a future issue of the Independent and will win a prize.

To submit a caption:

  1. Captions can be statements or quotes. If submitting a quote, be sure to indicate which person in the photo is “speaking,” even if it seems obvious to you. Please submit the quote of the caption and please identify which person in the photo “said” your quote.
  2. Submit your entry to [email protected]. Simply type your entry into the body of the email, or it can be attached as an RTF.
  3. Please put “Catchy Caption Contest Week #___” in the Subject Line.
  4. Send more than one caption if you desire. More than one entry can be included in the same email.
  5. To win a prize, be sure to include your name, address and phone number. Only Elmhurst residents are eligible.
  6. Prizes will be awarded!

Entries will be judged by cleverness, originality and sense of humor. Entries containing language that is inappropriate for a family newspaper will not be considered. The contest will be judged by Publisher Pete Cruger and Editor Dee Longfellow. Their decisions will be final. Winners will be notified by telephone and will have their names published in the paper (addresses and phone numbers will not be published). Contest entry information will not be used for advertising or promotional purposes. There is no entry fee. Relatives and employees of Rock Valley Publishing are ineligible to enter.  The deadline to enter the Catchy Caption Contest Week #1 is Friday, July 20 at 5 p.m. The contest will end August 23, 2018.

Catchy Caption Contest Week #1

This week’s photo was taken by Dee Longfellow at the City Centre Rock the Block Party in September of 2017.

Here are a few “catchy” examples:

Catchy Caption: #1:

Boy: “Will you accept this ticket that reads ‘Free Shrimp Cocktail at Trump Casino?’”

Catchy Caption: #2

Off camera, the boy’s parents look on proudly, as mom dabs a tear. “He’s really learning the value of a paper ticket, isn’t he, Honey?”

Got a better one? Send it in now to [email protected]. Write “Catchy Caption Contest Week #1” in the Subject Line.
