York’s Lauren Derkowski strikes out 17 in win against Lincoln-Way West. Dukes defeat Oak Park-River Forest in conference action

York softball pitcher Lauren Derkowski’s strikeout totals continue to grow.

Derkowski struck out 17 in seven innings in York’s recent 10-6 non-conference win against Lincoln-Way West.

In the non-conference win against Lincoln-Way West, York led 5-0 after two innings and 8-3 after three.

Karnatz went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Moran was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Collins went 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI. Kroll went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Smith had a hit and an RBI. Tran went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Meagher had a hit and an RBI. Derkowski had a hit, a run scored and three RBI. Kroll had two doubles, while Tran, Collins and Karnatz each had a double. Collins, Karnatz and Derkowski each hit a home run. Karnatz stole three bases.

York also was a recent 9-8 winner over Oak Park-River Forest in West Suburban Conference Silver Division action.

The Dukes led 2-1 after four innings only to see Oak Park-River Forest score four in the top of the six to take a 5-2 lead. The Dukes tied it up at 5-5 with three in the bottom of the sixth. The Huskies scored three more in the top of the seventh, but York put up four in the bottom of the frame to win the game.

Katherine Karnatz had a hit and RBI, while Jane Moran had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Madison Collins had two runs scored and a hit. Kyra Kroll had a hit, a run scored and three RBI. Izzy Smith had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Mia Tran had two runs scored. Andrea Meagher had three hits, a run scored and two RBI, while Derkowski had a hit and a run scored. Smith and Meagher each had a double and Kroll homered.

Derkowski was the winning pitcher. She went the distance and allowed four hits, while striking out nine.

In a 12-11 WSC crossover loss to Willowbrook, York had 13 hits but made six errors. Karnatz went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Tran had two runs scored, a hit and two RBI. Kroll had a hit, two runs scored and an RBI. Smith had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Julia Derkowski had a hit and two RBI. Lauren Wojcik had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Julia Derkowski and Wojcik each doubled. Karnatz had two triples, while Kroll also had a triple. Wojcik hit a home run. York stole eight bases in the game. Tran had three, while Kroll had two.

York threw a combined no-hitter in a 16-0 WSC Silver Division win against Proviso West. York scored 10 runs in the fourth inning.

Julia Derkowski started and went the first four innings. She struck out eight and faced one batter over the minimum. Wojcik pitched the fifth inning and struck out two and also faced one batter over the minimum.

Karnatz had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Tran had three hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Collins had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Kroll had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Smith scored two runs and walked twice. Meagher had a hit and two runs scored. Julia Derkowski had two runs scored, a hit and an RBI. Lauren Polte had a hit, two runs scored and four RBI. Anne Grasse had a hit, two runs scored and an RBI. Eight of nine York players had hits in the game. Tran doubled three times. Collins and Karnatz each had a triple, while Kroll and Polte hit home runs.

York stole 10 bases with Kroll, Smith, Meagher and Grasse swiping two each.
