Elmhurst Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

 

Battery

 

March 21

Police said that subsequent to investigating a loud noise complaint at an apartment in the 400 block of S. Argyle at around 9: 13 p.m., an officer made contact with Kevin Kaysing, 32, of Elmhurst, at his residence and gave him a warning to turn the music down. A short time later, another complaint was made regarding the noise and officers again made contact with the Kaysing. According to police, while speaking with him, Kaysing slapped an officer in the chest area and officers attempted to take him into custody by placing handcuffs on him. During this time, police said Kaysing resisted arrest and swung at officers causing injury to both officers, with one officer being transported to the hospital for treatment. Kaysing was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and two counts of aggravated resisting arrest.

 

Criminal damage, criminal defacement

 

Jan. 31-Feb. 23

Police said that a victim, upon returning from vacation, observed the window at the southwest corner of his house was broken by what appeared to be a hole from a BB gun between the above dates.

 

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disturbance

 

March 19

Police said officers responded to a battery victim in the 200 block of E. Second at around 11:18 p.m. Upon arrival, the victim told police he was involved in a fight with his cousin. The victim refused to give information on the suspect. A message was left for the suspect and the victim refused to sign any complaints.

 

March 18

A 40-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with domestic battery in the 400 block of W. Grantley at around 9:47 p.m. A victim told police that the suspect came towards the victim; she grabbed a kitchen knife and held it up in defense. Police said the suspect admitted to grabbing the victim’s arms and that the victim may have grabbed a knife in self defense.

 

March 17

A 27-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with domestic battery in the 100 block of Hale at around 11:49 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a verbal argument, the suspect slammed the victim’s hand in a door and pulled her hair. The suspect also was charged with violation of bail bond after being found to have violated the conditions of his bond by contacting the victim over the phone, according to police.

 

March 15

One of the suspects in the 300 block of N. Ridgeland told police at around 7:42 p.m. that she was involved in an argument with her mother at the above location. An argument between both turned physical as both suspects wrestled over a phone, resulting in the phone being thrown. Due to neither party wishing to sign complaints, no arrests were made.

 

Disorderly conduct

 

March 16

Christopher Dwyer, 31, of Elmhurst, was charged with disorderly conduct, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia at a restaurant in the 600 block of W. North at around 11:07 p.m. Police said Dwyer was verbally abusive and refusing to leave the restaurant. He was taken into custody and was found to be in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Kevin Silha, 39, of Geneva, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct-public intoxication in the 100 block of W. North at around 12:18 a.m. Police said officers and medics responded for an unconscious subject on the front lawn of the above location. Silha was located and found to be highly intoxicated, according to police.

March 20

Kyle Bassan, 29, of Roselle, was issued a citation for open alcohol in a vehicle in the 400 block of N. York at around 9:21 p.m.

 

March 18

Iakov Karaban, 21, of Palatine, was charged with DUI-drugs and driving while license revoked, while Colin Schenkel, 20, of Palatine, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at around 1:22 a.m.

 

March 17

Cesar Ledezma-Contreras, 45, of Berkeley, was charged with DUI and disobeying a traffic control signal subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Industrial at around 1:51 a.m.

Ricardo Matamoros, 23, of Wood Dale, was charged with DUI and no insurance near Third and Addison at around 5 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a call for a driver slumped over the wheel, Matamoros was found to be DUI.

 

Harassment, threats

 

March 19

A victim in the 300 block of W. North told police at around 4:59 p.m. that a suspect came to her door and made threatening statements. The victim quickly closed the door; the suspect then walked around the house looking into the windows from the outside before returning to his car and driving away.

 

March 17

A victim told police at around 1:21 p.m. that she has been receiving Instagram messages from an unknown person requesting her to send pictures to them. A suspect was questioned but denied sending the messages. An investigation is pending.

 

Aug. 7, 2017-March 17

A victim in the 100 block of S. Poplar told police that he is being harassed by another coworker who is sending inappropriate letters to his residence between the above dates.

 

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance

 

March 19

Alex Calle, 21, of Elmwood Park, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, suspended registration, driving while license suspended and no insurance, while Kyle Garcia, 18, of Elmwood Park, was charged with possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop for being in Eldridge Park after hours at around 8:05 p.m.

Starkisha Stephens, 35, of Schaumburg, was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia, while Tiffany Valentine, 29, of Posen, was cited for possession of open liquor subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at around 9:21 p.m.

 

March 18

Oscar Gamez, 21, of Addison, was charged with possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at around 11:29 p.m.

Ronnie Reyes, 22, of West Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and DUI subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Villa at around 1:20 a.m. Police said Reyes was found to be DUI and in possession of cocaine.

 

March 17

Attempted retail theft was reported at a food store in the 900 block of S. York at around 11:20 a.m. Police said officers responded for an attempted retail theft where the suspect fled in a white Lincoln heading east on Butterfield Rodd. A store employee told police he observed a suspect described as a black male, approximately 5’6”, wearing jeans and a dark colored jacket, enter the aisle in the store where the alcohol is displayed. The complainant believed suspect was attempting to conceal alcohol in his jacket.

 

March 16

Adolfo Lopez, 27, of Addison, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, illegal transportation of alcohol, driving while license revoked, no insurance and no rear registration plate light subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and Van Auken at around 11:36 p.m. Police said Lopez was taken into custody and during a search incident to his arrest, was found to be in possession of cocaine.

Jordan Mulero, 28, of Beach Park, Ill., was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near Grand and Crown at around 7:33 p.m.

Alize Tyson, 19, of Willowbrook, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis, no insurance and no seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Roosevelt at around 9:36 p.m.

Police said an employee at Elmhurst College located a pink women’s wallet lying on the pavement at around 11:22 a.m. The wallet was turned over to security. An inventory of the wallet yielded two loose capsules. A reporting officer found the wallet belonged to a suspect, who stated she received the capsules from a friend and is currently using them for the purpose of weight loss. The suspect was released without charges, pending lab results.

 

March 15

Felix Cruz-Reyes, 23, of Des Plaines, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Crestview at around 4:57 p.m.

Earon Logan, 26, of Villa Park, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and tinted windows subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at around 4:50 p.m.

March 21

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 6:51 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect entered her parked vehicle and removed her purse. The victim was advised that fraudulent transactions were processed on her US Bank card.

 

March 19

Deceptive practice was reported at a business in the 700 block of N. York at around 8:44 a.m. A victim told police that a counterfeit $20 bill was used to purchase parts/sales by an unknown customer. The Secret Service was notified of the incident.

 

March 16-March 19

Burglary to a vehicle was reported at a business in the 400 block of W. Wrightwood between the above dates. A victim told police that two padlocks had been cut off his trailer and items were missing. The trailer was parked directly behind the business in the south parking lot.

 

March 17

A victim in the 500 block of N. Evergreen told police at around 12:35 p.m. that he received a post card in the mail that indicated his credit card was declined by the Illinois Tollway and that he needed to contact the Illinois Tollway to correct the issue. The victim called the number listed and provided his credit card information. The victim realized it was not the Illinois Tollway and cancelled his credit card.

 

March 12-March 17

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of S. Arlington between the above dates. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) made fraudulent charges and withdrawals from his bank account. The victim has since cancelled his account and notified credit agencies.

 

March 16

Theft and possession of a controlled substance was reported in the 400 block of Avery at around 12:20 p.m. A victim told police that while a suspect was being showed the victim’s house, he stole medication from her home. The suspect was contacted, admitted to stealing the medication and came into the station with the pills. The suspect was released without charges pending further investigation.

 

March 12-March 16

A stolen vehicle was reported in the 800 block of S. Riverside Drive between the above dates. A victim told police he received a phone call from a friend regarding the whereabouts of a white semi-truck which was parked in the gravel lot at the above location. The victim stated the truck was locked and he had the keys in his possession. The victim did not have the suspect’s information nor did he give anyone permission to take the truck.

 

March 15

Theft was reported in the 200 block of W. Walter at around 2:08 p.m. A complainant told police that a white 53-foot semi-trailer was stolen from the above location. The trailer was placed in the drop lot awaiting pick up.

 

March 14-March 15

Theft was reported at a retirement community in the 1100 block of S. Euclid between the above dates. The health care administrator told police that sometime between 8 a.m. March 14 and 8 a.m. March 15, Oxycodone went missing. There is no documentation for the missing tablets.

 

Warrant arrest

 

March 19

Police said Yair Palacios-Valderrama, 29, of Bensenville, had an active warrant out of DuPage County subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and Church at around 12:07 a.m. The suspect also was charged with driving while license revoked and tinted windows.
