York boys basketball team comes up big again in conference play

Make it four in a row for the York boys basketball team.

The Dukes won their fourth West Suburban Conference Silver Division game in a row, this time a 60-55 triumph over Hinsdale Central.

After starting off conference play 2-2, the Dukes now are 6-3 in Silver play and finish up with conference games against Lyons Township, Oak Park-River Forest and Proviso West. York lost 66-61 at home in overtime to conference leader Oak Park-River Forest and dropped a three-point game to Proviso West, while also losing by a hoop in double overtime to Downers Grove North. York is now 16-8 overall after being 5-4 at one point.

In earlier action, the Dukes were 58-45 winners over that same Downers Grove North team.

York led 11-4 after the first quarter and 26-9 at halftime.

Sam Walsh led the Dukes with 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting. John Milling had 12 points, while Angelo Martucci had 11 points and Erik Cohn had eight points. Nick Kosich and Milling each made two 3-pointers. Martucci was 5-for-5 from the free-throw line, while Cohn had six rebounds. Walsh had five rebounds and Kosich had six assists. Walsh had two steals.

Through 23 games, Kosich was leading the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game. Cohn was averaging 10.8 points, while Martucci was at 10.1 points per game. Nate Shockey was at 6.5 points, while Walsh was averaging 6.0 points and Milling was at 4.5 points.

Martucci was shooting a team high 53.9 percent from the field. Kosich was the team leader in 3-pointers with 59 (41.8 percent), while Cohn had 36 threes at a 39.1 percent clip. Shockey had 21 three-pointers (31.8 percent).

Jeff Grace was tops in free-throw percentage at 88.2 percent (15 of 17), while Milling was at 82.6 percent with 19 makes in 23 attempts. Cohn was at 78.4 percent (29 of 37), while Kosich was at 70 percent (28 of 40). Martucci was leading the team in free-throw attempts with 91 (59 of 91 for 64.8 percent).

Walsh was tops in rebounding at 3.8 per game. Kosich was the team leader in assists with 59, while Martucci had 57. Kosich had 47 steals, while Martucci had 40 steals.Milling and Walsh each had four charges taken.
