Dukes’ wrestlers and gymnasts compete in sectional action.

York girls gymnastics

The York girls gymnastics team had several at-large qualifiers who competed in the recent Lake Park sectional.

The Dukes did not have any automatic state qualifiers out of Lake Park.

Freshman Lailah Waddell qualified in the all-around competition, as did sophomore Megan Cronin and sophomore Zikora Nnam.

Junior Jessica Dryden advanced on vault, while Cronin advanced on parallel bars. Cronin also advanced in floor exercise.

York wrestling

The York wrestling team had four individuals compete at the recent Class 3A Elgin Larkin sectional. None of the wrestlers qualified for the state meet.

Matt Cozzi started in the 126-pound division with a loss in 1:41, received a bye in wrestlebacks and then won via fall in 3:53. He then lost to a wrestler from Hoffman Estates in the third round of wrestlebacks.

At 138, Jason Lewis received a bye in the first round, lost in the second round to a Glenbard West wrestler, won his first wrestleback match by a 16-0 margin in 3:31 and then lost to a Glenbard North wrestler in the third round of wrestlebacks.

At 152, Anthony Cozzi won his first match by fall in 3:11 and then lost in the semifinals. Cozzi then won 16-0 against Elk Grove in the second round of wrestlebacks before losing 4-2 in the third round.

At 170, Zach Armstrong lost his first match, received a bye in the first round of wrestlebacks and then lost in the second round of wrestlebacks.
