The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 18th annual Chef Fest will be held at the Drury Lane Theatre & Conference Center, 100 Drury Ln. in Oakbrook Terrace. Guests will enjoy a variety of signature menu items from prominent local restaurants, bakeries and caterers. Cash bar is from 6-7 p.m. followed by food tasting from 7-9 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 10

“Olympic Rocks” will be held at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 Cottage Hill Ave., starting at 1030 a.m. Geared for middle and high school students ages 10-18 competing in Science Olympiad tournaments, this 75-minute class delves into rocks and minerals. Hands on samples cover most of the S.O.  specimen list. Topics include quick ID tips, Bowen’s Reaction Series, and general rock information. Student can sign up as a team or as an individual. Bring your questions to this informal practice session. Reservations are required. Fee: $5 per person. Call 630-833-1616.

 

Sunday, Feb. 11

At 2 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum welcomes first person history presenters Max and Donna Daniels as President Abraham and Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln. The program, “The Lincolns Present: The Genesis of the Gettysburg Address,” takes place in the Elmhurst History Museum’s Education Center, located just south of the Glos Mansion at 120 E. Park Ave. in Elmhurst. Reservations are required and may be made online at www.elmhursthistory.org (in the Adult Programs section) or by calling 630-530-6879. The program is free to members of the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation, and $5 for non-members. Limited, free on-site parking is available.

 

Friday, Feb. 16

The Elmhurst Panhellenic Foundation presents their annual Wild for Fashion fundraising event, a fashion show and silent auction event and is the primary fundraiser to benefit scholarships for Elmhurst area students. The event will be held at the Hyatt Lodge, 2815 Jorie Boulevard, Oak Brook. Tickets are $65/person. Saturday, Feb. 24

From 7 p.m. to 12 midnight, the York Athletic Boosters will hold its Annual Green Scene Fundraiser at Fitz’s Spare Keys in downtown Elmhurst. This event includes bowling with coaches, open pool, a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, light buffet and cash bar. Pre-sale tickets are $50. They will be $60 at the door the night of the event. Ongoing programs:

  • Freedom: A History of US

is appearing from Jan. 12-March 11 at the Elmhurst History Museum. The evolving concept of freedom is explored in this touring exhibition from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, illuminating critical figures and events from our nation’s birth until 1968.

  • A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.
  • Widows or Widowers (WOW) meet every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 So. York Rd. WOW’s purpose is to lend support, friendship, education and provide social activities for those adapting to life after the loss of a spouse. All are welcome.   • The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m.  New York steaks are available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
