Timothy Christian girls basketball team ups winning streak to seven Trojans earn No. 1 regional seed.

The Timothy Christian girls basketball team is on fire.

The Trojans racked up three more wins last week to move their winning streak to seven games in a row.

Timothy was a 57-47 Metro Suburban Conference Red Division winner against Ridgewood. Timothy led 19-8 after the first quarter and 33-8 at halftime thanks to a 14-0 second quarter run.

Ridgewood did outscore Timothy 27-13 in the third quarter and 12-11 in the fourth.

Olivia Schuringa led the Trojans with 16 points. Hannah Schuringa added 11 points, while Emily DeBoer had 10 points and Heidi Westra had eight points. Jordyn Strube had six points, including a 4-for-4 effort from the free-throw line. Sureya Alex had three assists, while Olivia Schuringa blocked five shots. Westra had 13 rebounds, while DeBoer and the Schuringa sisters each had six rebounds. Westra had three steals.

Timothy then recorded a 65-22 win against Guerin Prep in MSC Red play. Timothy led 22-0 after the first quarter and 40-6 at halftime.

Freshman Hannah Schuringa led the Trojans with 19 points. Olivia Schuringa added 10 points, while Westra had nine points and Strube had eight points. Lauren Gehrke had seven points. Strube had five assists, while Westra had 10 rebounds. Hannah Schuringa had eight rebounds and Alex had five steals, while Westra and Hannah Schuringa had three steals each.

The Trojans made it seven in a row with a key 50-41 win over Riverside-Brookfield in overtime in a MSC crossover game. Riverside-Brookfield plays in the larger-school Blue Division of the conference.

Timothy led 12-0 after the first quarter and 19-13 at halftime. Timothy outscored R-B 11-0 in the third quarter but R-B went on a 24-7 run in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime where the Trojans outscored their foes 13-4.

DeBoer led the Trojans with 13 points. Olivia Schuringa had 11 points, while Alex had 10 points and Hannah Schuringa had seven points. Alex made two 3-pointers. Timothy connected on 18 of 24 free-throw attempts with DeBoer going 7-for-8.

Alex finished with six assists, while Olivia Schuringa had five blocked shots. Timothy blocked eight shots as a team. DeBoer had 11 rebounds, while Olivia Schuringa had seven rebounds, as did Strube. Hannah Schuringa had six rebounds. Alex had three steals.

Timothy also received word it is the No. 1 seed in sub-sectional A of the Class 2A Chicago Christian sectional. The Trojans will host regional action at their new Ward Athletic Center and open play Wed. Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. against either No. 7 seed Chicago Collins or No. 10 seed Chicago Our Lady of Tepeyac. Lisle and Westmont, the 4 and 5 seeds, respectively, face off at 7:30 p.m. in the other regional semifinal and the two winners meet Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at Timothy for the regional title.
