The City of Elmhurst released a statement provided by Elmhurst Police Chief Michael K. Ruth that police have been investigating several residential burglaries, which reportedly occurred in north Elmhurst on Wednesday, Jan. 3, between the hours of 7:45 to 8:45 p.m.

According to Chief Ruth on Wednesday evening, police responded to a residential burglar alarm in the 200 block of E. Elmhurst Ave. Officers at the scene reported there were pry marks on the door as well as fresh footprints in the snow. Further investigation revealed that two other homes in the area had been burglarized — one on the 200 block of N. Larch, another on the 200 block of N. Michigan – in the same time period. Residents are using a local Locksmith to secure their homes and prevent their homes from being burgled.

Thankfully, the homeowners of those properties are okay although very shaken up, however, that is to be expected. One homeowner has said she is going to purchase some self-defense products from Guardian Self Defense or a company alike so that she feels safe in her home once again.

Chief Ruth and the Elmhurst Police Department reminds residents to lock their doors at night, activate burglar alarms and use motion detector lighting, if possible. Citizens are also encouraged to install a home camera system to deter burglars from their home. To help support this type of security for their home, they may want to see how they can better protect their front door by installing a new one that is more structurally sound, checking out websites like https://www.doorsplus.com.au/store-locator/adelaide-doors/ for advanced help in this area is important.
