Addison Trail-Willowbrook boys swimming’s Burns victorious at York invite

The Addison Trail-Willowbrook co-op boys swimming team recently tied for eighth place at the 12th annual York Invite in Elmhurst.

AT-Willowbrook was two points out of seventh place.

AT-Willowbrook’s Jack Burns won the 50 freestyle in 22.95. Mikey Strycharz was 11th in 24.56. Burns also took fifth in the 100 with a time of 52.43. Zachary Thompson tied for 20th with a time of 57.11.

Kyle Haake was 16th in the 200 with a time of 2:04.85, while Strycharz was 20th in time of 2:10.04.

Haake was 15th in the 500 with a time of 5:39.94. Eric Hoda was 21st with a time of 6:13.34.

Thompson placed seventh in the backstroke with a time of 1:01.93, while Jack Wentworth was 22nd in 1:09.53.

Aidan Nichols was 21st in the breaststroke with a time of 1:16.19. Thomas Holmes was 23rd in 1:16.85. Marco Chaidez was 19th in the butterfly with a time of 1:06.79, while Salvatore Ciaccio was 21st with a time of 1:07.63.

Nichols placed 11th in the 100 IM with a time of 1:08.07, while teammate Lucas Walsh was right behind him in 12th place at 1:08.11. Patrick Florey took 15th with a time of 1:08.66.

Evan Zimmerman took 10th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:22.52, while Ciaccio was 19th in 2:33.62. Sean Pienkos was 21st in 2:34.95.

AT-Willowbrook was fifth in the 200 relay with a time of 1:37.54 with Zimmerman, Hoda, Strycharz and Burns.

AT-Willowbrook was 11th in the 400 relay with a time of 3:44.49 with Zimmerman, Wentworth, Strycharz and Burns. AT-Willowbrook also was 15th in the 200 medley relay in 2:04.55 with Nick Mitchell, Holmes, Chaidez and Pienkos.

Grygo at Benedictine

Addison Trail graduate Eric Grygo is enjoying a strong season with the Benedictine University men’s basketball team.

Through the first 10 games of the season, Grygo was averaging 12.3 points per game and was leading the team in rebounding at 9.0 per game.

Grygo, a 6-6 sophomore forward, started all 10 games and was averaging 26.3 minutes of playing time per game. He was shooting a strong .620 from the field and .800 (24-for-30) from the free-throw line. He also ranked second on the team in blocks with 15.

In a recent 97-90 overtime loss to Elmhurst College, Grygo had 13 points and 11 rebounds in 32 minutes of action.

In a 73-64 win over Kalamazoo, Grygo had four points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes of play.

In a 102-98 overtime win against Wisconsin Lutheran at the Rice Center in Lisle, Grygo had 11 points and 12 rebounds in 35 minutes of action. He added 13 points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes in a win against Rockford University.

Willowbrook wrestling

Willowbrook wrestling standout Jack Jessen was ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 3A in the most recent Go Earn It Wrestling Apparel individual rankings on the Illinois Matmen website.

So far this season, Jessen has won the Hoffman Estates tournament. He took second in the state as a junior at 182 pounds and was third in the state at the same weight as a sophomore and was second at 170 pounds as a freshman.
