Immigration issues discussed, enrollment, at League of Women Voters meeting

Join the League of Women Voters of Elmhurst on Thursday, Dec. 7, 7 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., as immigration issues are discussed.

A brief film on Immigrant Prisons, produced by Brave New Films will be shown, followed by the Executive Director of the Interfaith Committee for Detained Immigrants, Melanie Schikore, will present what her organization does.  Lavanaya Jaganathan, a Malasian immigrant, will describe her 13 year journey to receiving a green card in the U.S.

The League of Women Voters believes that immigration policies should promote reunification of immediate families; meet the economic, business and employment needs of the United States; and be responsive to those facing political persecution or humanitarian crises. Provision should also be made for qualified persons to enter the United States on student visas. All persons should receive fair treatment under the law.
