Dentist holds second annual Candy Buy-Back event

WANTED: Halloween Candy for CA$H Reward

On Thursday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Elmhurst Dentistry for Kids will be collecting all unwanted wrapped candy and paying $1 per pound (up to 10 pounds) to donors.

And where does all this candy end up? The office will work with the local Illinois District 5 VFW Auxiliary who help ship all the collected candy to U.S. troops overseas. Help us promote healthy eating and teach the importance of charity to our children.

“No child needs to have a shopping bag full of candy,” said Dr. Jerry Udelson, the owner of Elmhurst Dentistry for Kids.

When Dr. Jerry started experimenting with the idea of the candy buy-back years ago, his own children were not big fans of the idea of giving up their candy. His children’s minds were quickly changed when they found out they’ll receive a few dollars in return.

When donors come into the office, their candy will be weighed and they will receive $1 for every pound up to a total of 10. They are also invited to create a card to express gratitude to service members. The boxes of candy that Elmhurst Dentistry for Kids accumulates will be included in care packages to U.S. military troops overseas and local Veterans Administration hospitals and organizations.

“Soldiers are so appreciative of the care packages they receive and are amazed at the support they receive from total strangers,” said Barbara Klapperich, 5th District VFW Auxiliary Representative, in Illinois.
