Willowbrook football team headed back to playoffs

It’s back to the playoffs for the Willowbrook football team.

The Warriors scored a recent 56-6 win over Morton in a Week 7 West Suburban Conference Gold Division game at Morton West Stadium in Berwyn.

The win moved Willowbrook to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in WSC Gold play. Not only did the Warriors remain atop the WSC Gold standings with two games to play, but it also earned an automatic playoff berth with its sixth victory.

In the Morton contest, the Warriors gained 274 yards on the ground and had seven rushing touchdowns. Jack Jessen ran nine times for 122 yards and scored two touchdowns. Chris Diaz ran seven times for 72 yards and scored three touchdowns. Franshun Jordan ran three times for 65 yards and scored a touchdown, while John Taylor had a 10-yard touchdown run.

Taylor completed 5 of 6 passes for 88 yards. Chase Cavanagh also threw a 79-yard touchdown pass to CJ Harris. Sikander Zafar caught three passes for 56 yards.

Through seven contests, Willowbrook was averaging 308 rushing yards per game.

Taylor has completed 81 of 135 passes for 1,181 yards and eight touchdowns against only four interceptions.

Jessen has rushed for 1,277 yards on 180 carries and has 15 rushing touchdowns. He’s averaging 182 yards per game on the ground and has six 100-yard rushing games.

Diaz has 373 rushing yards and six touchdowns, while Taylor has 305 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Zafar has caught 25 passes for 428 yards and one touchdown. Jacob Entwistle has 18 catches for 212 yards and two touchdowns, while Diaz has 14 catches. Martique Barksdale has 15 catches for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

On defense, Jessen leads the way with 52 total tackles. Kevon Dobbins had 45 total tackles and three quarterback sacks. Entwistle and Christian Washington each have 37 tackles, while Nick Rushing has 36 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 quarterback sacks.

As a team, Willowbrook has 59.5 tackles for loss.

Scott Tumilty has a team-leading four interceptions, while his sophomore brother, Sam, has three interceptions that have been returned for a total of 119 yards.

Willowbrook returns to action Friday at home against Proviso East in another WSC Gold game.
