Marion Zimmerman, 97

Marion Zimmerman

Marion Rose Zimmerman (nee Meyer), of Melrose Park, passed away on October 22, 2017, at the age of 97. Marion was born in Quincy on January 6, 1920 and was married to John Zimmerman on June 25, 1938. They were married for 60 years.

Marion worked in the offices of Jewel for more than 25 years.  But she could also be found helping at church, on the sidelines the roller rink where her daughter skated, traveling around the state with Eastern Star (Leyden Chapter, Grand Representative of

Saskatchewan), attending Daughters of The Nile meetings, quilting at home or with friends or going on outings with members of the Red Hats.  She was also known to brag about her grandchildren, decorate her “pet” giraffe Dorothy and fight to pay for things her family was never intending on her paying for.

Marion is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Kaye Charbonneau (widow of Tony); her grandchildren Anthony Charbonneau and Joelle Charbonneau-Blanco; her three great grandsons Casey, Michael and Maxwell. Marion is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack and her adoring husband, Johnny, who will whistle and tell her how beautiful she looks when he sees her. A brief service to celebrate Marion’s life was held on Oct. 27, 2017, at Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary, 435 North York Street, Elmhurst, with the burial to follow at Arlington Cemetery, Elmhurst. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association – alz.org. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Sunrise in Schaumburg for always caring for Marion with smiles, gentle hands and kind words.  Information provided by Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary.
