York’s Mann competes at state golf meet

York junior boys golfer Aidan Mann finished in a tie for 91st place at the recent Class 3A state finals meet held at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington.

Mann shot an 80 on his final day of competition to end with a two-day total of 169. Mann shot 41 on the front nine at The Den and had a 39 on the back. Mann birdied the 10th and 16th holes and had seven pars.

In his first round, Mann tied for 96th in the field with an 89. He shot 48 on the front and came back with a 41 on the back nine. Mann birdied the seventh and 14th holes and had three pars.

Mann was part of a York boys golf team that finished 9-2 in dual meets and finished second as a team at the Elk Grove regional to qualify as a team.

At the recent Class 3A New Trier sectional, York shot 309 and missed qualifying for the state finals meet as a team by one stroke. Lake Park shot 308. York shot seven sub-310 eighteen-hole rounds this season.

At New Trier, Mann finished tied for 11th with a 76. Josh Brown tied for 19th with a 77. Matt Buckley and Sam Bartolone each tied for 26th with 78s. Josh LaBounty tied for 44th place with an 82. Casey O’Malley tied for 55th with an 84.

IC Catholic Prep boys golf

The IC Catholic Prep boys golf team finished fourth at the recent Class 1A Rockford Christian Life sectional held at Elliot Golf Course.

The Knights shot 326 and did not qualify for state as a team, falling behind Riverdale (300), Putnam County (310) and Rockford Christian (313).

Connon Leahy led the Knights with an even-par 72 and finished third overall. Charlie Schoonveld shot 82, while Charlie O’Brien had an 85 and Thomas Hilgart had an 87.

“We were paired with the qualifying teams so we knew exactly where we stood,” said IC Catholic Prep coach Don Sujack. “Some great scores on their part made it evident that we were going to have to take some chances on the back nine. While that didn’t always work to our advantage, the boys played with a do-or-die intensity that was ‘team-first.’ I couldn’t be prouder of them. Connon continued to play well and while his medalist streak ended and his team season is over that young man remains quite focused.”

IC Catholic Prep girls tennis

The IC Catholic Prep girls tennis team finished with 10 points and took fourth at the recent Class 1A Timothy Christian sectional. The Knights had no individuals advance to the state meet.

IC Catholic Prep boys soccer

The IC Catholic Prep boys soccer team lost 3-0 to Chicago Phoenix Military Academy in the semifinals of the Class 1A IC Catholic Prep regional held at Plunkett Athletic Complex in Elmhurst.

In earlier play, the Knights were 7-0 winners against Walther Christian in regional quarterfinal play.

The IC Catholic Prep girls volleyball team recorded a recent 25-16, 25-14 Metro Suburban Conference Blue Division win against Riverside-Brookfield.

Nailah Landon and Maya Stovall each had seven kills to lead the way for the Knights. Bella Leslie had nine digs and one service ace. Kristen Brachmann had three kills and three blocks. Sophie Hurt had 15 assists, one kill, six digs and one block, while Kaya Hood had three kills.

The win pushed IC Catholic Prep to 11-10 overall and 7-4 in MSC Blue play.

Earlier, the Knights were 14-25, 25-14, 25-15 MSC Blue winners against Illiana Christian. Landon had 13 kills and one block. Stovall had nine kills, four aces and one block. Leslie had 16 digs and one ace. Brachmann had two kills one block and two aces. Hurt had 27 assists, three kills, eight digs and one block. Hood had four kills and two blocks. Josie Lytton had one kill, two blocks and eight digs.
