EMH Foundation plans Hope. Lives. Here. Luncheon

Cancer awareness event scheduled for Oct. 25

The will host its Hope. Lives. Here. Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. at the Butterfield Country Club, 2800 Midwest Rd. in Oak Brook. The annual event is held to increase awareness and raise funds for the Nancy W. Knowles Cancer Center and Elmhurst Hospital’s oncology services.

Proceeds from the luncheon are used to provide patients with educational materials to learn more about their specific needs, provide community screenings for early detection and prevention, and offer the latest therapies, such as the use of the DigniCap Scalp Cooling System to lessen hair loss during chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer.

People going through something as intense as cancer can feel a multitude of emotions as they see their body change, that is why it is important for them to be aware of these types of aids that can make them experience some control. After they are done with their cancer treatments they will still need support and guidance on what they can do for themselves as they recover. Keeping in the same area as hair loss, they may seek out neograft in Denver clinics or a clinic where they have had their cancer treatments, so they can get their hair back and feel better about themselves during this time. Obviously, this is the patient’s choice and they should do what they think is best, but it is fortunate that the help is there if required.

Speakers at the luncheon include Christina Lavin, MS, LCGC, Genetic Counselor at the Nancy W. Knowles Cancer Center and Deborah Lindner, MD, FACOG, LCGC, Chief Medical Officer for Bright Pink, an organization with the mission of saving women’s lives from breast and ovarian cancer by empowering them to live proactively at a young age.

Individual tickets are $55 and tables of 10 are available for $550. To register and purchase tickets, visit emhfoundation.org/events or call (331) 221-0388.
