The Elmhurst American Legion baseball team, which just completed its season after a several-year hiatus, is expanding.

In addition to having its 19U regular Muddogs Legion team next year, Post 187 is starting a 17U Junior Legion tournament team.

Post 187 will hold a tryout for that 17U squad on Sunday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m., at the Plunkett Athletic Complex on West Ave., in Elmhurst.

Players must fill out a tryout form before the Aug. 20 tryout date.

That tryout form can be obtained by contacting Post 187 head coach Mike Biondo at [email protected].

To play for the Elmhurst Junior Legion team for the 2018 summer season, a player must be 17 years of age or younger before December 2018. No players younger than 15 years of age may try out.

The cost to play is $800, which includes team insurance, field use, equipment, umpires, full-button camo jersey, pants, flex-fit hat, belt and four sanctioned American Legion tournaments, one of which will be held in Nashville where the player’s hotel and travel will be paid for.

Payments can be paid in full or can be paid in monthly increments starting Jan. 3. The initial deposit is $300. Fundraising options that would go toward a registration fee are available.

Interested players also can contact Biondo with any questions at 630-270-7749.
