Here’s what’s happening at Elmhurst City Hall…

The following topics were discussed at the latest Elmhurst City Council meeting on Monday, Aug. 7.

• The City Council meeting began with members of Timothy Christian’s Scholastic Bowl State Champion Team being recognized by Mayor Steve Morley and the members of City Council. (See story elsewhere in this issue.)

• Elmhurst Police Sgt. Nick Waldenmeyer was honored with two awards from the National Elks Clubs organization as well as the local Elmhurst Elks Lodge for his outstanding work in drug education and awareness in the community. (See story elsewhere in this issue.)

• Elmhurst Hospital awarded its “Run of the Month” to members of the Elmhurst Fire Department for saving the life of a man who suffered a heart attack while skating on the ice at the Elmhurst YMCA. The victim, Frank SanGiocomo, spoke at the City Council meeting, where he had a chance to thank those who saved his life. (See story elsewhere in this issue.)

• The American Heart Association presented the STEMI Award to the Elmhurst Fire Department. Chief Paramedic Don Martinson accepted the Gold Plus STEMI award on behalf of the Department.

• Accounts Payable were approved for $2,745,315.

• The Council approved Mayor Morley’s recommendation to appoint Lisa Callaway to the Zoning & Planning Commission to complete Darrell Whistler’s term, which will expire February 20, 2018. Whistler, who was Chair of the Commission, recently passed away.

• A recommendation from the Public Works & Buildings (PWB) Committee was approved to replace a pump at the Arlington Storm Water Reservoir by Water Well Solutions of Elburn, in the amount of $25,033.

• Another recommendation from the PWB Committee was approved for engineering services for the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) Electrical Distribution and Design in the amount of $158,500. The contract was awarded to Baxter & Woodman, Inc., of Crystal Lake.

• The PWB Committee also recommended an engineering proposal be accepted for the WRF NPDES Merit Assistance from Baxter & Woodman in an amount not to exceed $318,500. It was approved by consent.

• Another PWB Committee recommendation passed by consent for engineering services for the WRF and Sanitary Sewer System Facilities and Emergency Sewer Outfall Elimination to be completed by Baxter & Woodman in an amount not to exceed $1,283,800.

• PWB Committee presented a recommendation that proposals submitted for 2017 Water Leak Detection Survey be rejected. Pending approval of the water meter and on-line leak detection project by City Council, this survey will no longer be needed. Vendors who submitted proposals will be notified via certified letter.

• Based on a recommendation by the PWB Committee, the City Manager is asked to sign paperwork related to the City of Elmhurst’s Water Pollution Control Revolving Loan Fund in order to complete WRF and lift station capital projects.

• Council approved a recommendation to purchase additional fire hydrants from Ziebell of Elk Grove Village in the amount of $76,533. Fire hydrant replacement is part of an annual maintenance program designed to replace older, out-of-date and high maintenance hydrants with new, more effective units. Failing fire hydrants are identified through hydrant flushing during routine maintenance.

• A bid was accepted from National Power Rodding in Chicago in the amount of $552,777 for the2017 sanitary manhole rehabilitation project.

• Another bid was accepted for pump replacement at the North Elmhurst Sanitary Lift Station in the amount of $26,721. It will be provided by Xylem Water Solutions USA — Flygt Product of Mokena.

• Revisions to the stormwater management policy code were approved.

• A bid for Robert Palmer Drive Underpass Improvements in the amount of $672,000 was accepted from Schaefges Brothers, Inc.

• A bid was approved for engineering services from Christopher B. Burke Engineering for the Southwest Elmhurst Stormwater Mitigation Project, Phase II in an amount to not exceed $79,000.

• A recommendation from the Public Affairs & Safety (PAS) Committee was approved, granting a temporary use and events permit to the Elmhurst Jaycees for the annual Jaycees Carnival to take place Aug. 17-20.

• A PAS committee recommendation was approved for a liquor license to Truth North Energy LLC and to add another Class CBBW liquor license to the Municipal Code.

• A proposal from FGM Architects of Oak Brook was accepted in the amount of $43,400 to conduct a space needs analysis at th Elmhurst Police Department.
