Park District seeks input on potential new park sites

Public hearing set for Thursday at Butterfield Park

This past April, the Elmhurst Park District deeded a portion of land at Golden Meadows Park to the City of Elmhurst as part of an Intergovernmental Agreement to assist the City in its efforts to address stormwater detention. Two properties recently considered for purchase by the District will be used for public outdoor recreation as part of a conversion process required by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources related to the agreement.

A public hearing about the properties, including potential future uses, will be held on Thursday, July 27 at 7 p.m. at the Butterfield Park Recreation Building to solicit feedback from the community.

On January 17, 2017, the Park Board approved the purchase of the property at 207 N. Hampshire Avenue, located northeast of East End Park. In addition, at the July 10 board meeting, the Elmhurst Park District Board of Commissioners approved a contract to purchase the former trailer park property at 0S761 Old York Road.

The purchase price for the former trailer park property is $1.55 million, which will be funded by the City as part of the agreement. Closing on the property is currently scheduled for September 13, 2017, with a Park District option to extend until November 1 in order to complete the IDNR conversion.
